Joby Aviation is leading the industry by introducing a revolutionary urban air mobility aircraft featuring the innovative all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) JAS4-1 air vehicle.  The Integrated Flight and Propulsion Control System (IFPCS) product team is seeking highly motivated, systems engineers, to help deliver the JAS4-1 vehicle to the marketplace.

 

The Integrated Flight and Propulsion Control System includes all the primary flight control functions (pilot inceptors, flight sensors, processing and communications, control laws, and control effectors) and some vehicle management functions.  

 

This position offers the opportunity to apply a broad range of systems engineering skills with responsibilities from requirements to certification.  The program is currently in the late Detailed Design Phase, and your accountability will be in aspects of integration, design validation and verification, failure modes and effects and analyses of system response, and preparation of certification artifacts.

Responsibilities Involvement in writing, conducting validation analyses and reviews, and validating all levels of the system requirementsSupporting design teams in trade studies, subsystem interface definition, requirements flow-down, development analyses, modeling and simulation activities, and assessment of resultsLeading and performing system integration activities including:Verification test plan definitionTest case development and reviewDetailed test procedure development and reviewAutomated and manual Verification test executionData reduction and analysesProblem reporting, resolution, and tracking issue to closureWriting Test ReportsCreating, analyzing, and managing issues, technical risks, and opportunities for subsystems using enterprise toolsPreparing artifacts and briefing material for internal and external technical meetings design reviews, program reviews, and safety-of-flight reports for the aircraftAssists in creating Type Certification documents and reports for the Regulatory AuthoritiesCollaborating with cross-functional teams such as Design, System Test, Flight Test, Certification, and Program Management Required Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics required; Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering preferredRelevant demonstrated scholastic project experience or internshipsUnderstanding and application of disciplined systems engineering processesFamiliarity with requirements managementFamiliarity with safety assessment conceptsExperience working in a laboratory environmentExposure to modeling and simulation using MATLAB/SimulinkExcellent verbal and technical writing skills in English languageAbility to work collaboratively, with self-starter skills that enables self-sufficiencyProficient with Microsoft Office and Google Docs Desired Minimum 5 years of Aerospace industry experience in primary flight and propulsion controlElectric vehicle technology experienceExperience (5 years) integrating and testing complex, highly integrated systems, including failure modes and effects testing (FMET)Understand the application of development assurance processes per SAE ARP4754AFamiliarization with safety assessment process, methods, and analyses (FHA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, CCA) used in safety assessments (PSSA, SSA) per SAE ARP4761Working knowledge of DO-160G environmental qualificationFamiliarity and experience with FAA Part 23, Part 25, Part 27, and/or Part 29 Certification Regulations (Part 23 is highly desired)Use of Requirements Management tools (working knowledge of Siemens Polarion is a plus)Experienced in model-based engineering using MATLAB/SimulinkExperience using Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and CrucibleFamiliar with Dassault Systems Engineering and Management tools (Enovia) EEO

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $87,700 - $144,000/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
