Backup Engineer 

 

Required Skills and Expectations  

Operates, installs, configures, and maintains backup devices such as Veritas FAS series, appliance, software such as Commvault*, Veeam*, Rubrik*, NetBackup, storage devices such as DAS, NAS, SAN using Veritas Dell/EMC and HP. 

Create and update knowledge base articles.  

Leading new installation projects for backup appliances (NetBackup 5240, NetBackup 5340 Flex), configuring new master/media servers and storage servers (NetBackup 5340 Flex, Data Domain 9800/9900) from onboarding to sign off. 

Hardware (refresh) migration for old backup systems that is outdated/unsupported to a new backup system that is supported and compliant. 

Hardware and software upgrading/patching for security vulnerabilities on backup appliance and storage appliance.  

Migrate clients and data from different master server environments to new or consolidates environments.  

Perform test and analysis on backup systems for hardware and software compatibilities. 

Maintains current knowledge of core service offerings and SLAs, understands all Logical service offerings to better support customer as well as engaging opportunity in expanding any service offering to better service our current customers   

Monitor trends and problems to spot patterns and recommend new standards or process changes.  

Creates and maintains technical and process documentation. Propose Knowledge changes and update existing process documents. 

Collaborate with internal resources, customer, and/or third-party vendor to solve complicated issues or as part of a project. 

Provides technical expertise and guidance to Services technicians and other engineers 

Other duties as may be assigned from time to time. 

Maintain high quality and timely ticket updates.  

Root Cause Analysis as required  

On-call as required  

 

What you’ll need to join Insight 

General requirements: 

At least 3+ years of experience in Storage Systems Administration/Engineering, NOC operations, remote trouble shooting, customer management and other related IT services experience  

Storage systems, networking troubleshooting skills 

Critical thinking in troubleshooting 

Able to thrive in an environment characterized by rapidly changing requirements and an ongoing focus on meeting operational objectives 

Strong written and verbal English communications skills 

Able to successfully manage multiple priorities 

Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization 

Strong commitment to company values and operating principles 

Excellent client communication skills  

Experience with multiple Platforms: *Commvault, *Veeam *Rubrik, NetBackup, storage devices such as DAS, NAS, SAN using Veritas Dell/EMC and HP. 

 

Preferred 

Industry recognized certifications; ITIL, technology certificates, others 

Experience supporting or working in an Enterprise and/or Global Managed Services environment
