Systems Engineer
What You'll Do About the Role Our ideal Systems Engineer is detail-oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and has a strong track record in modern systems engineering and infrastructure as code (IAC). The candidate should have extensive technical expertise across AWS, Azure, or GCP compute platforms. Responsibilities: Provide engineering and administration of Windows and Linux virtual servers. Monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all operating systems and infrastructure systems’ performance to identify, resolve, and communicate issues. Deploy security remediation steps to protect against vulnerabilities identified by the Information Security team. Automate processes to solve problems efficiently and demonstrate the ability to write IAC using Terraform, with familiarity in version control systems such as GitLab. Discover opportunities for implementing and maturing cloud compute technology. Interact with peers, leadership, and customers on a global scale. Respond to incidents and service outages to restore service interruptions in a timely manner. Maintain documentation libraries, capturing business processes, creating storyboards, and developing training materials. Produce metrics on usage statistics and measure end-user experience. What You'll Need to be Successful What You'll Need to Be Successful: BE/BTech degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical systems engineering experience, with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience. Comfortable managing technology solutions for a large-scale global environment. Hands-on experience with developing infrastructure as code (IAC) solutions and deploying on cloud-based hosting providers. Familiarity working in an agile environment within Atlassian Jira. Strong understanding of networking, telephony, DNS, and ITIL concepts and topology. Knowledge of when high availability and disaster recovery are required. Experience with Terraform, PowerShell, and Ansible. About the Team About the Team The Avalara Global Infrastructure Team builds and maintains all of Avalara's corporate infrastructure. We are instrumental in engineering technical solutions to meet business objectives.
