Department OverviewMotorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of public safety land mobile radio communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The group’s main business is the implementation of mission critical digital land mobile radio communication systems for Government and Public Safety Communication customers.

The Post-Sale Systems Engineering team is the technical lifeblood of the Systems Integration organization. Our engineers design and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in “Solving for Safer”. As the solution architect and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering team has the end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility for all post-sale project engagements. The Systems Engineering team delivers customer drive, world-class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of our First Responder and Government customers.
Job Description

This position is open for DoD SkillBridge candidates only.

Note: The candidate MUST reside in or be open to relocation to OH, MI, MN, WI, SD or ND.

The System Engineer will take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of the assigned project from award until system acceptance.

This involves:

Final Design and implementation of the radio network accounting for infrastructure, subscribers, power systems design, equipment shelter and tower layouts, backhaul network design including microwave, leased line, and customer provided Ethernet networks

Strong interpersonal relationship building and the ability to work directly with end-user customers and peers

Customer presentations 

System staging

Developing system acceptance test plans and conducting system functional acceptance testing

Radio coverage testing and interference mitigation

Supplying input and participating in radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA)

Preparation of system fleetmap, encryption, and radio programming templates

Complete system documentation

Develop plans and participate in live system cutovers and upgrades

Specific Knowledge / Skills:

Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE

Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)

Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar

Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.

Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment

Additional Preferred Experience / Skills:

Previous knowledge and experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Nokia microwave and IP network routing

Experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVP TE, and LDP)

Experience/knowledge in line of sight microwave propagation

CJIS Requirement:

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
