Responsibilities

This opportunity will provide systems engineering and mission planning integration support to the Systems Design & Definition Branch (EV72) for the Human Landing System (HLS) elements and to the MSFC Systems Engineering and Integration Division (EV70). The successful candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple HLS engineering disciplines, system elements, cross-program elements, and customers, as well as participate in HLS reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies.

The candidate will supply leadership or support for the development of key systems engineering products with a focus on mission planning related models in MagicDraw. These models will support program milestones and subsequent activities where they will be assessed and matured.  The successful candidate will work with the Human Landing System element customers and partners from inception to deployment to ensure stakeholder needs are satisfied.

The system engineering support that the candidate will perform includes\:

Provide MagicDraw modeling integration with other engineering disciplines, Human Landing System elements, and cross-program elements, including risk-based insight through traceability and assessment of mission planning activities. Support Human Landing System mission planning trades and analysis necessary to validate models and associated requirements, maintain control of the mission baseline, and continually track compliance of the mission requirements during design, development, testing, and evaluation. Perform thorough technical assessments of proposed mission planning requirements to understand the impacts imposed by modifications. Provide support for Design Analysis Cycle (DAC) planning, execution, coordination, and integration for mission planning models and associated requirements to ensure design compliance. Communicate issues, best practices, lessons-learned and other technical positions related to Model Based Systems Engineering, requirements management, and integration practices and procedures. Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks related to the products, processes and interactions in the systems engineering processes and document them in the NASA Risk Management System. *

BS degree in Engineering or related field with 5 years of systems engineering experience is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.

Required Skills/Experience\:

Knowledge of systems modeling language (i.e. UML or SysML), and related MagicDraw experience (as a user, not an admin) 1 Year(s) of Experience in Leading Technical Teams Experience using requirements management tools such as DOORS Familiarity with JIRA or similar task management software (as a user, not an admin)

Preferred Qualifications\:

2 Year(s) of Experience in Leading Technical Teams Advanced systems modeling language experience (any UML or SysML), and MagicDraw experience (as a user, not an admin) Intermediate experience with JIRA or similar task management software (as a user, not an admin)

Essential Functions

Work Environment\:

Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements\:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%). 

Equipment and Machines\:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance\:

Normal workday is from 7\:30 a.m. through 4\:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions\:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

 Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
