Lockheed Martin is looking for a dedicated Mission Operations Systems Engineer to join the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Program, SBIRS/NGG, Flight Operations Support (FOS) team working onsite in Sunnyvale, California.
The Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO), Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO), and Next Generation OPIR (NGG) constellations utilize a Pointing Control Assembly (PCA) to task the infrared sensors and allow for the collection of IR data over a vast region. The PCA consists of a gimbal, Motor Drive Electronics (MDE), which all interface with the rest of the payload system.
The PCA Subsystem Technical Analyst (SSTA) must support each GEO, HEO, NGG space vehicles operations from factory integration and test until decommission. During this time, the PCA SSTA is considered the day-to-day subject matter expert on the Pointing Control Assembly along with its associated hardware and software. Therefore it is essential to acquire in-depth knowledge of the functions of the PCA and all the systems it interfaces with. This is critical for knowing identifying any state of health issues and resolve any anomalous behavior within the PCA system. Some additional duties, include development of command products, Day In The Life testing, documenting operational processes, data analysis, identifying requirements, and support execution of PCA flight objectives.
This role will also function as a satellite factory, Systems Engineer overseeing critical projects that support mission operations day to day activities, specifically for the SBIRS/NGG satellite constellations.
As a Systems Engineer, you will:
• Learn GEO, HEO, and NGG space vehicle operations from factory integration and test until decommission
• Be responsible for the daily state of health and operability of the constellation
• Work closely with and rely on the technical analysts, Certified Principle Engineers (CPE), and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand and resolve issues
• Support all pre-launch readiness rehearsals, space vehicle launch, and early orbit testing support
• Apply what you learned to support satellite day in the life (DITL) testing
• Document operational processes, findings, and resolutions
• Identify requirements and supporting execution of vehicle flight objectives
• Identify and implement changes to improve performance
• Develop tools and techniques to perform analysis with Python, MATLAB, etc.
• Working with a large team and be willing to support 24/7 operations on a rotating on-call basis
• Travel when required (Less than 10%)
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
• Team oriented, eager to learn from, and help others
• Willingness to work rotating shifts
Desired Skills:
• Active DoD Secret/Top Secret/SCI security clearance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members
• Familiarity with any of the following: MATLAB, Python, STK, or satellite control software systems
• Commanding On-orbit Satellite(s)
• Experience with satellite Launch and Early Orbit Testing (L&EOT)
• Project management and organization
• Products release management experience
• Eager to learn and provide feedback on how to make processes better and more efficient
• Able to apply demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve problems and implement constructive change
• Able to compile processes, practices, and concepts to see the bigger picture and what needs to be done to get to the end result, not just what is happening now
• Experience with statistical analysis and/or datamining large datasets

Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $55,300 - $106,000. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
