Lockheed Martin is seeking a full time Early Career dedicated Mission Operations Systems Engineer to join the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Program as a part of the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and Next Gen GEO (NGG) Flight Operations Support (FOS) team supporting Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) and Thermal Control Subsystem (TCS) working onsite in Sunnyvale, California.
The EPS/TCS Subsystem Technical Analyst (SSTA) must support SBIRS GEO and NGG space vehicles’ operations from factory integration and test until decommission. The EPS/TCS SSTA is considered the day-to-day subject matter expert on their subsystems, along with the associated hardware and software. This person will develop in-depth knowledge of the functions of the EPS/TCS and all the systems they interface with, which is critical for identifying any state of health issues and resolving any anomalous behavior within the EPS/TCS system. Some additional duties include development of command products, Day In The Life testing, battery reconditioning, documenting operational processes, data analysis, identifying requirements, and support execution of EPS/TCS flight objectives.
This role functions as a satellite factory, Sub-System Technical Analyst (SSTA) primarily supporting Thermal and Power Sub-Systems and overseeing mission operation projects that contribute to the day-to-day activities, maintenance, and health of the satellite constellation.
As a Sub-System Technical Analyst, you will:
• Learn space vehicle operations from factory integration and test until decommission
• Be responsible for the daily state of health and operability of the constellation
• Work closely with and rely on the technical analysts, Certified Principal Engineers (CPE) and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand and resolve issues
• Support all pre-launch readiness rehearsals and launch and early orbit test support
• Apply what you learned to support satellite day in the life (DITL) testing
• Document operational processes, findings, and resolutions
• Identify requirements and supporting execution of vehicle flight objectives
• Lead battery reconditioning
• Identify and implement changes to improve performance
• Develop tools and techniques to perform analysis
• Be a team player and be willing to rotate on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, as required.
• Work overtime and weekends when necessary to support mission goals
• Travel when required (Less than 10%)
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
• Team oriented, eager to learn from, and help others
• Willingness to work rotating shifts
Desired Skills:
• Active DoD Secret/Top Secret/SCI security clearance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members
• Familiarity with any of the following: MATLAB, Python, STK, or satellite control software systems
• Commanding On-orbit Satellite(s)
• Experience with satellite Launch and Early Orbit Testing (L&EOT)
• Project management and organization
• Products release management experience
• Eager to learn and provide feedback on how to make processes better and more efficient
• Able to apply demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve problems and implement constructive change
• Able to compile processes, practices, and concepts to see the bigger picture and what needs to be done to get to the end result, not just what is happening now
• Experience with statistical analysis and/or datamining large datasets

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $57,500 - $101,430. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
