The MITRE US Transportation Command Regional Operation’s department (N555) is seeking a System Engineering Intern based out of our St. Louis Regional Operation’s office located in O’Fallon IL.  N555’s mission is to provide expertise for government sponsors focused on improving the Department of Defense’s ability to deploy and distribute forces worldwide. We do this by helping our government sponsors understand, decide, and deliver critical mission capabilities. The Department houses teams which are focused on Data Analytics, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, and Network Engineering. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to perform innovative work which will make an impact on the US Transportation Command and Air Mobility Command while working across teams made up of highly skilled and experienced members.

MITRE’s Internship program is focused on training the next generation of engineers and scientists while getting them involved with teams from across the company. During our 10-week program, interns receive hands on training to provide exposure to fields both inside and outside of their area of expertise via learning opportunities taught by MITRE’s subject matter experts.  Additional educational resources are also available to Interns for learning skills that can further develop their careers such as certifications and cutting-edge technologies.  Mentorship opportunities are also available which will connect interns to mentors from across the company.  An End-Of-Year intern showcase allows interns to show off their projects to fellow interns and network across the company.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with team members distributed across the country to develop and analyze requirements, models, concepts, and various operational scenarios. Gather and analyze sponsor requirements and integrate changes into existing models.Develop models using modern software (e.g. Cameo) and programs to better understand various operational scenarios. Create and present briefing to internal teams, external partners, and sponsors which will communicate results, recommendations, risks and opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

Must be a student enrolled full time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree program and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.Experience in one or more modeling tools.Experience in SysML or UML.Basic familiarity with modeling and simulation approaches and implementations.High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges.Sustained excellence in academic performance.Excellent interpersonal, writing, communication, and briefing skills to interact with team members and sponsors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience having applied systems engineering or similar learning to an internship or research/lab position.Experience with Data Analytics / Data Science, including one or more of the following languages and/or data visualization tools: MATLAB, Python, C++, R, Jupyter Notebook, JavaScript and SQL.Experience in at least one or more programming languages.Demonstrated interest in serving the public.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$45,500 - $57,000 - $68,500 Annual
