Note from Client Hiring Manager:
The customer wants someone that has working knowledge of HCD, which is somewhat of a specialty. They are willing to overlook direct experience with HCD if the person is skilled in SMPe and has good knowledge/understanding of z/OS internals such as PARMLIB and PROCLIB.
If the person has these skills, learning HCD will come very easily and the customer can provide some on the job specific training.
They must really know JCL, and not from a ‘system monitoring’ perspective but more so how to install and maintain software using SMPe.
Systems Programmer Position Description:
Responsible for development, installation, implementation, and maintenance of the mainframe operating system and hardware configuration; includes installing and maintaining z/OS, the mainframe operating system, and the hardware configuration for client mainframe complexes.
Required Skills:
SMP/E to install, implement and maintain z/OS software IBM's Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) tool to allocate critical mainframe resources to the operating system Resource Management Facility (RMF) and System Management Facility (SMF) for problem determination and static reporting of mainframe system resources.
Preferred skills:
Ability to use mainframe tools such as RMF, SMF, IPCS, Abend-Aid, File-Aid, SYSLOGs, etc., to resolve software problems Ability to coordinate operating system software problem determination and resolution in a mainframe SYSPLEX environment Ability to write and debug JCL and REXX/CLISTs.
Position Minimum Qualifications
(Experience - functions, client experience, years, etc.): BA/BS.
Education: BA/BS. High school diploma plus any combination of additional years of specific experience in the proposed field of expertise and years of undergraduate-level study in a related field together totaling six years.
General Experience:
Must have a minimum of nine years of experience.
Preferred degrees include but are not limited to BA/BS in: Computer Science/Technology Information, Technology Information Systems, Information Systems Management Software, Engineering with nine years of experience: Demonstrating hands-on experience in analysis of problems and technical requirements in computing, networking, and application areas. Process and data modeling using both automated and manual tools. Applying reverse engineering disciplines to develop mitigation, strategy, and planning documents. Developing, integrating, and deploying enterprise solutions and using enterprise wide disciplines. Analyzing problems, solving technical problems, and recommending new and improved business solutions in a wide variety of technical areas. Planning and managing WOs.
