Pay Range

$182,310 - $277,344

$182,310 - $231,180 Annually for the SEL.3 level

$218,700 - $277,344 Annually for the SEL.4 level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith believe we expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We have an opening for Systems Resilience and Security Group Leader, which is part of the Data Analytics and Decision Sciences (DADS) Section within Computational Engineering Division (CED). The primary focus of this group is the design and analysis of integrated systems supporting a variety of application areas such as cyber and physical security and resilience, industrial control systems, critical infrastructure systems, and intelligence analyses. You will manage a multi-disciplinary group that applies a combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, modeling and simulation, and systems analysis to understand complex, multi-domain problem areas and provide decision insight, communicate options and trade-offs, and facilitate the integration of new technology in support of customer missions. You will provide technical, programmatic, and administrative leadership for these efforts. You will maintain a programmatic assignment and will report to the Data Analytics and Decision Sciences Section Leader.

This position will be filled at either level below based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

 

In this role you will

Supervise, provide technical and administrative direction/guidance, career counseling, mentoring, coaching, and support to 10+ group members.Develop and serve the group’s customer base by maintaining a close interface with programmatic and project elements.Formulate a long-term plan for research and development that will provide state-of-the-art capabilities to further the mission of LLNL.Collaborate with project leaders within Laboratory programs to anticipate and meet technical needs and objectives.Develop research and development initiatives for external sponsorship and for internally supported LDRD and Tech Base projects.Recruit and hire new staff as needed to meet Section, Division, and programmatic staffing needs.Ensure quality of work and promote effective teamwork within the group.Attend Section and Division meetings, plan and conduct monthly Group meetings, and conduct institutional training sessions as required.Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SEL.4 level

Set project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for self and others.Develop new Engineering capabilities and novel methods and/or technologies in data analytics and decision sciences.Provide subject matter expert capability in one or more areas of data analytics and decision sciences. Qualifications

 

This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire. Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.Significant experience in research and development related to systems analysis including one or more of the following: risk assessment, system modeling, optimization, data analytics, or economic analysis.Ability to promote and lead technical projects.Experience in writing research and development proposals.Experience working in a team environment with multi-disciplinary personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to staff.Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information with all levels of personnel, and provide advice to management.

Additional qualifications at the SEL.4 level

Subject matter expertise in one or more relevant technical areas including: risk assessment, system modeling, optimization, data analytics, economic analysis, or other related field.Significant experience in the leadership of technical projects, project planning, and execution.Significant experience developing and implementing creative solutions to highly complex problems.Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to lead a team, advise senior management, engage external partners, and positively represent the Program and the Laboratory.Knowledge of Laboratory management and structure including supervision, budget, policies, and processes.

Qualifications We Desire

Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.Experience in the hiring and career development of employees.Experience with performance and salary management processes. Additional Information

Security Clearance
