Department Summary:
MITRE’s Survivable Communications Systems Department has an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic technical team having substantial impact on the design and development of next generation DoD communications systems. Our work focuses on Satellite Communications, High Frequency (HF) and Very Low Frequency (VLF) communications in a benign and Nuclear environments.
We are seeking a Systems Security Engineer with knowledge of Systems Security Engineering best practices to contribute to the specification development, integration, and test strategies of next generation Military Satellite Communications systems. This position also includes the role of Information Systems Owner in a lab. This is an opportunity for someone who is highly motivated, innovative and proactive. This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and expand one’s systems architecture, modeling and problem-solving skills.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Performing systems engineering analysis for requirement trades, design and integration trades, end-to-end performance analysis, and identifying risk mitigation approachesArticulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertaintiesCommunicating work program uncertainties, risks and opportunities with department leadership and SponsorsSupporting development, decomposition, and review information assurance system requirementsSupporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processesTranslating analysis results into actionable recommendations for the US Government agenciesTasks may include leading working groups or studies covering multiple engineering domains while interfacing and collaborating across multiple stakeholders to create timely and actionable recommendationsTasks may also include hands-on prototyping, integration, and testing activitiesSupport project leads in execution of tasks by helping define and plan tasks to meet project outcomes.Work closely with senior and mid-senior level government personnel and division leadership to provide technical leadership.Collaborating with stakeholders in our lab to ensure the system security plans in the lab are executed based on the defined security controlsCollaborating with users, system administrators, information system security owners and other stakeholders in the lab to ensure RMF compliance is metBasic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceActive Secret Clearence with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearanceProficient communicating complex technical material in presentations and in writingCertification in Certified Information Systems Security Professional, CompTIA Security+, or similar certificationExperience planning, executing, and presenting complex analysesFamiliar with NIST 800-53Experience working with multiple engineering disciplines to provide solutions to complex problems that require unified software and hardware approaches while balancing cost and schedule constraints.Experience architecting systems and designing security plansStrong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across multiple organizations and engineering disciplinesExperience leading teams with diverse skillsets, developing and executing strategiesThis position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
