The Tax Accountant works closely with and under the direction of the Tax Director to provide support for tax preparation, research and payments.  The Tax Accountant will also work closely with billing and customer service to ensure accuracy of taxes and provide an onsite resource for questions and concerns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process required federal, state and local registrations and remit required payments on a timely basis. Reconcile all general ledger accounts and ensure that taxes and surcharges collected agree with what has been submitted for payment. Perform monthly audits of customer invoices to ensure accuracy of taxation. Report, on a monthly basis, any billing discrepancies and work with the department to ensure timely corrections are made. Assist with asset identification and re-categorization to determine appropriate renderings for personal property tax. Calculate and remit sales and use tax. Review AP invoices to determine accuracy of tax then build use tax accrual. Record monthly accrual for processing of payments. Assist with regulatory reports and annual filings. Collaborate with team to complete special projects and meeting department deadlines. Audit billed customer accounts for accuracy of taxes. Provide timely responses to customer inquiries and request for tax information... Assist with categorizing assets for personal property tax. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Associate Degree in Accounting – Bachelor’s Degree preferred At least 2 years as a staff accountant with experience in general accounting and general ledger Knowledge and/or experience with multistate sales and use tax reporting Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and possess advanced skills with Excel – Power user preferred
