Covia Energy, a leading provider of proppant to the oil and gas industry with a differentiated footprint of low-cost, logistically advantaged mining and terminal assets serving all major U.S. shale basins, is seeking a Tax Accountant, to join our team and be based out of the company’s The Woodlands, TX. corporate office. Covia Energy is in the process of separating into a standalone company from Covia Corp., which will focus on industrial silica applications.
The ideal Tax Accountant candidate will assist in managing sales and use tax, property tax and unclaimed property compliance. This role requires staying current with tax legislation, coordinating with various departments, and supporting the company's tax matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Use Tax
Assist in overseeing sales and use tax compliance, including filing returns and supporting audits, Help develop and implement tax strategies to optimize tax positions and minimize liabilities, Stay updated on changes in sales and use tax legislation and communicate implications to the tax team, Work with various departments to ensure proper sales and use tax handling on transactions,Property Tax
Support property tax compliance and reporting, including filing property tax returns and making payments, Coordinate with third-party compliance providers to ensure timely and accurate tax information, Assist in conducting property tax assessments and managing appeals and audits, Help identify potential savings opportunities and develop strategies to minimize property tax liabilities, Maintain relationships with state and local tax authorities and support the company in property tax matters,Unclaimed Property
Assist with the company’s unclaimed property compliance program, including filing reports and ensuring timely remittance of unclaimed property, Conduct periodic reviews and audits to ensure compliance with state unclaimed property laws, Assist with implementing policies and procedures for unclaimed property compliance, Assist with evaluating third-party unclaimed property compliance providers to ensure the company is effectively managing the process in the most cost-effective way, Coordinate with internal departments to identify and report unclaimed property accurately,
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, 1-3 years of experience in tax determination and compliance, with a focus on sales and use tax, and property tax, Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably IFS or similar systems, Experience with third-party tax determination and compliance platforms (e.g., Vertex), Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, Good communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
