Function

The Tax job family encompasses global roles accountable for the design and implementation of tax strategies, policies and the tax governance framework.  It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo’s business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks. With the rapid digitalisation of indirect tax administration, the Tax Compliance team is increasingly dealing with real-time tax audits and other data requests from various authorities by providing timely access to accurate data. In addition to the tax compliance responsibilities, the team is heavily involved in the delivery of the Global Tax mission and Performance Promise agenda.The APAC Tax Compliance team is led from Budapest by the Global Tax Process and Governance Director.This role reports into APAC Tax Compliance Manager. It also works very closely with the Australia Tax Business Partner and the Australia Tax Lead and liaises with other internal & external stakeholders.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the market’s Tax Compliance processes are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.

The role will support the implementation and ensure ongoing operation of the Global Tax processes, controls and automation tools under the new Tax Operating model for Australia.  The role will actively support the global tax projects and advisory topics as well as tax capability building for the Australia and New Zealand market.

Ensure that complex direct and indirect taxes and connected supplementary returns are prepared according to the global standard process and controls, local DTPs, on time and utilising automation tools where applicableReliable and strong support and collaboration with Australia Tax Business Partner on matters such as tax audits, litigations, tax risk mitigation, tax compliance and controls, and special projectsEnsure compliance with market-specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes working closely with Global and Local SMEsProvide close support of tax-related advisory topics in the scope falling under own remitActively manage and coordinate tax-related document retention for your marketTake responsibility for the day-to-day tasks requiredDecision support for business partners through value-add analysis, thorough understanding of movements on accounts, the business reason behind those, and collection and presentation of Risk & OpportunitiesEnsure smooth and accurate month-end closesPrepare and post accruals/adjustments/other required journals to ensure the month-end results show the clear and fair picturePrepare quality reconciliations through deep understanding of the figures supported and reportedEnsure that financial processes are undertaken accurately, efficiently, on time and that the surrounding internal control procedures are strictly adhered to in line with CARM processesMaximize benefits of globalized system processesSet work priorities and, in general, independence of work activitiesIdentify and drive continuous process improvement in cooperation through establishing a LEAN approach to drive effectiveness and efficiency – supporting process improvements and rollout of standardised processes and automationContribute ideas, energy, enthusiasm and support to the continuous improvement of the processesPrompt response to market queries in respect of markets in her/his responsibility and supporting Global Tax leaders, tax managers, SMEs in non-routine questions, global projects, and during tax audits in her/his competencyMaintain excellent personal and business relationship with the market and in-house stakeholdersPro-active support for internal projects to facilitate the ongoing transformation and improvement of Diageo’s Global Tax function (including providing relevant information, answering ad hoc requests and suggesting alternative ways of working)Acts as a back-up for the Australia Tax Lead in relation to technical aspects

Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages

University / College degree in finance / accounting / business / CPAAt least 3-4 years working experience in a multinational corporate environment, with exposure to some of the following areas:Proven track record in the area of Financial Accounting / Reporting, Taxation and/or Financial Controlling experience is strongly preferred.Internal / external audit experience and/or SOX is an advantageExperience with Shared services process activities is an advantageCapable of working in a deadline driven environment.Experience of working in a multi-national financial environmentHard working personality, flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitudeFluent in English, able to communicate effectively to build strong relationships with operational staff and stakeholdersRelevant experience with SAP FI /CO COPA modules
