About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Tax Associate to help manage WeWork’s Tax function in Mexico. You will work with an amazing team to oversee the monthly consulting and compliance process as well as providing tax advisory services to the business. You will ensure that the monthly Income tax and VAT filings are made on time and that submissions are legally compliant with local Tax laws. In addition, you will support WeWork from an advisory perspective. You will ensure that local VAT requirements are being analyzed and are implemented in collaboration with other business functions (including but not limited to technology, supply chain, construction, shared services, legal, finance and commercial). You will be working in a very fast paced environment and will be required to balance multiple priorities. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience, is a quick learner, has strong analytical skills, is resourceful and eager to dive into the data to drive results.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and review the monthly tax compliance process for Mexico.
Assist in the VAT recovery process.
Liaising with finance / shared services in respect of issues identified during compliance process (e.g. incorrect invoice postings, lack of support information)
Assist with the management of VAT audits/enquires before the tax authorities or external auditors to meet the deadlines
Assist in driving continuous improvements in the Tax return compliance process, through improving systems data and creating streamlined processes
Monitor new service offerings/business units being launched and assist in analyzing their VAT implications
Assist in the VAT due diligence of new business acquisitions and in ensuring that they operate in a VAT compliant manner post-acquisition
Review and understand the VAT implications of contracts being entered into by WeWork (including customer agreements, supplier and lease agreements) and advise Legal on the required VAT wording
Work with Supply Chain to ensure transactions remain tax compliant and minimize tax costs to the business
Answer one-off VAT questions from internal functions as well as customers
Assist with developing training material to be deployed to key functions within the business
Liaise with third party advisors, as required, who may assist in managing all or some of the above
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree; major in Tax, finance, accounting, and/or economics preferred
3+ years of tax experience
Expertise in Microsoft Excel
Strong communicator and collaborator
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly motivated and willing to take on multiple responsibilities at once
Able to work comfortably to meet tight deadlines
Knowledge of Workday is a plus
