How you will create an impact

This role is a member of the Tax Advisory team and serves as a Tax Advisor reporting to Senior Tax Counsel.  This role provides technical tax advice and supervision of all U.S. Federal tax aspects of transactions, initiatives, and business transactions.  This role supports the business, corporate and regulatory legal counsel, Investments and Treasury and other areas within Tax.

Providing technical US federal income tax and legal advice to AIG, on a consolidated and separate company statutory basis, including identifying, developing, and implementing potential tax planning opportunities to optimize AIG’s overall tax posture, capital position, impact on liquidity and enhance value.  Advising AIG functional areas, such as Treasury, Capital Management, Risk Management, and other departments on matters pertaining to AIG’s financial resources, including the US federal income tax impact of corporate transactions, including insurance related transactions. Providing US federal income tax advice on matters pertaining to investments relating to AIG, including advising on tax efficient structures. Advising on the US domestic and international tax consequences of M&A transactions and internal restructurings, including providing legal advice and analysis to assess the most tax efficient means of achieving target strucMaintaining knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed US federal tax rules, legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation as well as certain relevant foreign tax law.Monitoring and advising on proposed and actual changes in tax law that may impact or affect AIG tax positions/posture. Advising the tax reporting teams on financial reporting and related disclosures and calculations and on complex tax technical matters.  Supporting legal assumptions and underlying quantitative analyses prepared by tax accounting and business teams.Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders within the businesses and other areas within Tax and Finance as well as outside advisors.  Drafting memos, presentation materials and formal written advice.  Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents.  End-to-end management of certain discrete tax reporting or complianceProviding US federal tax technical advice to the Global Tax Modeling team.Providing support to AIG’s Tax Controversy Group on on-going US federal income tax controversy matters.Working with non-US tax teams on non-US tax matters as necessary.

What you’ll need to succeed   A minimum of 2 years (3+ years preferred) as a tax associate at a nationally recognized law firm or in a corporate tax-planning function at a Big Four accounting firm or publicly traded company with experience with US multinational insurance companies or other financial institutions.J.D. or L.L.M. degree from an accredited U.S. law school.License to practice law in the U.S.An in depth understanding of US corporate tax rules, Subchapter C, and rules specific to the taxation of insurance companies.Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills with an ability to multi-task and operate in a fast-paced environment.Team player that possesses attention to detail, honesty/integrity, and efficiency.Excellent oral, written, negotiation and persuasion skills.Proficient in the use of MS Office:  Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
