TAX INTERN\n
Overview: The individual filling this position will assist the other tax professionals of the Austin Powder Company with compliance reporting, accounting, audits & inquiries, and associated work for the client entities it serves; as well as assist with required administrative tasks. The work performed will be done under the supervision of the Tax Manager and the balance of the Tax Team.\n
Description: \n\nPreparation of tax compliance returns to include State\/Local\/Provincial sales and use taxes, fuel tax refunds, and annual reports. Returns are filed on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly filing frequency.\nAssist with the preparation and submission of federal, state, & local income\/franchise tax returns and supporting workpapers and files for specified Austin Powder affiliated entities. \nGathering, processing, and adjusting financial information through the available personal computer software applications to effectively generate the tax returns, as well as supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source \/ support documentation. \nCompiling data for census reporting with the U.S Census Bureau.\nTax & related informational filings. \nEffecting corporate tax payments.\nResponding to issues raised by management inquiry and\/or internal or external audit examination.\nVarious accounting matters for financial and tax purposes.\nRegistering client entities with all appropriate federal, state and local authorities and maintenance of such registrations. \nMaintaining account analyses w\/re: to General Ledger accounts related to business taxes on an actual and\/or projected basis. \nMaintaining a comprehensive tax calendar for the Austin Powder entities.\nMaintaining & enhancing the Austin Powder Group's corporate tax files in SharePoint.\nHandling tax team mail, facsimiles, etc. \nOther duties as assigned by the Austin Powder Tax Team.\n\n
Education and Experience \n\nIndividual working on an undergraduate degree in accounting, having completed \/ completing at least two years of study.\nMinimum of one year of some form of work experience is preferred; preferably a prior internship in the accounting\/tax field.\n\n
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities \n\nStrong desire to learn and to continue to develop skills.\nA basic \"hands-on\" working knowledge of personal computers and spreadsheet, database, & word processing software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).\nThe ability to work effectively with people, i.e., a \"team player\".\nIndividual must be a competent accounting major with the ability to complete assigned tasks with reasonable supervision. Further, the individual must:\n\nBe reliable and resourceful.\nMaintain an attention to detail.\nHave good organizational skills with an ability to keep multiple tasks moving.\n\n\n\n
Work Environment \n\nOffice setting with partial remote (partial remote work not guaranteed to continue). Potential travel time required.\n\n
