Tax Manager, Day Shift, Financial Services

As a Tax Manager, you will:
• Manages the compilation of Adventist HealthCare’s legal entities’ federal and state tax returns through collaboration across multiple departments, including legal, accounting, marketing, reimbursement, human resources, etc.
• Manages all IRS and multi-state communications and ensures that all notices are appropriately addressed and resolved.
• Prepares and approves the tax calendar to comply with federal and state deadlines.
• Prepares and reviews executive compensation for the Forms 990 tax return filings.
• Maintains and modifies financial tax reports within Workday to ensure alignment with Adventist HealthCare’s business changes.
• Acquires and maintains Federal and State tax exemption status through collaboration with government officials and attorneys as necessary.
• Prepares and reviews the Maryland annual tax reports and personal property tax returns.
• Facilitates communication between the tax department and internal/external parties to ensure needed data is provided accurately and timely for tax filings.
• Coordinates the review of real estate and related assessments with Adventist HealthCare real estate team and ensures all real estate and related assessments are paid timely. Assists in the appeal of real estate tax assessments as necessary.
• Manages relationships with external tax consultants for the review and preparation of tax returns.
• Researches and stays abreast of new tax laws, evaluates potential tax exposure, and leads tax research projects as needed.
• Monitors and reviews for AHC compliance with tax laws and regulations (including unrelated business income tax and excise taxes).
• Provides tax-related support to other departments within Adventist HealthCare as needed, including treasury, payroll, accounts payable, human resources, etc.
• Subject matter expert related to tax compliance as it pertains to new acquisitions and divestitures of AHC companies.
• Manages and reviews the Community Benefit financial reports for Adventist HealthCare’s hospitals, and ensures they are filed timely to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC).
• Works collaboratively with AHC’s Community Health and Wellness department to ensure efficiencies with the collection of data for the Community Benefit financial reports.
• Manages the presentation of the Community Benefit financial reports to hospital leaders for review.
• Stays abreast of new IRS and HSCRC requirements and guidelines for the Community Benefit financial reports.
• Subject matter expert related to Community Benefit reporting as it pertains to new acquisitions and/or divestitures of existing entities.
• Requests and compiles information and data for the annual audited financial statement footnotes.
• Assists with the preparation of certain annual audited financial statements and footnotes.
• Assists with the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement closes and the related internal and external reporting packages.
• Responsible for maintaining updated policies and procedures for the Financial Operations Department in accordance with AHC guidelines.
• Serves as the Financial Operations Department internship coordinator each summer, which includes interviewing, candidate selection, and overall assignments to ensure that the intern has a fulfilling and successful experience with AHC.
• Responsible for supervising and mentoring staff; participates in interviewing and hiring new staff.

Qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• A CPA certification or an advanced degree is considered a plus
• 7+ years of progressive tax experience, which may include public accounting and/or corporate tax environments
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws, specifically in the not-for-profit industry
• Must have a strong technical background and a proactive work style, be a self-starter
• Must be well organized with strong project management skills
• Must possess strong analytical skills and an aptitude for learning and using various job-specific software applications
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; familiarity with CCH Access tax software is a plus
• Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Stellar interpersonal and written communication skills are necessary
• Must be deadline-oriented and able to handle a multi-task environment
• Must have strong customer service skills

Pay Range:

$89,356.80 - $134,035.20

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as:
