The Tax Manager, U.S. State & Local Tax is responsible for broadly supporting AstraZeneca’s U.S. State & Local Tax function. The role will report into Group Tax and will be responsible for supporting both direct and indirect tax aspects of the core operations of the U.S. State & Local Tax function, including use of related tax technologies, data and systems.
Direct Tax: Provide broad support relating to financial statement reporting and tax return compliance for US. State & local taxes. This support will also include assisting in transactional data modeling as well as the timely review of notices and administration of audits by governmental taxing authorities. Extensive and efficient collaboration with the tax return outsourcer, middle office organization (GFS) and Group Tax are required in this role.
Indirect Tax: Provide technical support to business partners as well as the middle office organization (GFS) who is responsible for the monthly indirect compliance process.
Tax Technology: Familiarity with tax reporting systems, compliance software, data retrieval and the underlying data sources such as the ERP systems that underpin the U.S. corporate income tax provision and return preparation process.
Main responsibilities:
Tax Reporting: Support the quarterly financial statement reporting process requiring familiarity with helping run the Longview Tax system to calculate current and deferred tax balances as well as tracking payable balances and the separate calculation of valuation allowances.
Tax Compliance: Coordination within Group Tax and our outsource provider to extract and review data needed for tax return preparation as well as the review of select tax filings. Assist in calculating quarterly estimated taxes and extension payments. Help facilitate the electronic storage and retrieval of tax returns and related data for audits and other purposes.
Tax Notices/Audits: Responsible for assisting with the review of tax notices and supporting audits with governmental agencies, most commonly the revenue departments. Activities will include the retrieval of mostly electronically stored information and written correspondence in response to auditor requests. Coordination with business partners when their data is subject to audit.
Business Partnering: Frequent interactions with Group Tax, internal business partners, middle office (GFS) and service providers are required to efficiently and effectively deliver the required support to the U.S. State & Local Tax function.
Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar degree required.
Minimum of three to five years of experience in a tax role in public accounting or private industry
Worked in U.S. tax space, including foundational U.S. state & local concepts for both direct and indirect taxes.
Experience with tax accounting for U.S. state taxes, including current, deferred and valuation allowance concepts.
Experience with tax and financial systems such as tax reporting, tax compliance and ERP systems.
Use of online tax research tools to provide guidance to clients, external business partners or governmental tax authorities in both oral and written communications.
Experience with virtual collaboration.

Advanced degree and/or CPA preferred.
