We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to assist with analysis and overseeing the revenue, people, and the economic aspects that drive the Tax Practice Areas’ overall efficiency and profitability.

The Tax Operations Manager for PHB will oversee and streamline the practice’s day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as an understanding of the unique needs of a practice area within a public accounting firm. They will assist in implementing and managing the firm’s infrastructure ensuring that the practice area and firm can scale efficiently, with speed and reliability, all with a focus of minimizing senior leaderships touch points within our systems.  This will entail working closely with senior leadership to operationalize and implement senior leaderships’ vision for business growth, enhance client service delivery, and drive operational excellence.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee the practice area’s operational processes to ensure seamless day-to-day functioning, eliminate bottlenecks and increase productivity across all practice areas of the tax department.

Execute continuous improvement initiatives, implementing best practices that enhance tax department wide efficiency.

Streamline workflows to enhance efficiency and ensure optimal use of resources.

Collaborate with department heads to adjust staffing levels based on capacity modeling.

Monitor firm performance metrics (e.g., revenue, profit margins, realization, utilization), reporting on financial health to practice area leads.

Design, develop and implement systemic improvements which enable scalable, streamlined processes and efficiencies. 

Identify, evaluate and implement processes to enhance our technology and software to improve efficiency and automation of routine tasks in areas such as approvals, budget management, and profitability management.

Lead process improvement initiatives to ensure the practice area operates in a scalable, streamlined manner.

Identify and manage operational risks, creating contingency plans to address potential issues that may impact the firm’s operations or reputation.

Collaborate and coordinate with practice area leadership, internal departments, and project delivery leads to align operational goals with the firm’s long-term strategic objectives.

Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with other departments, such as Finance. Act in a leadership role while representing the interests of tax operations and the PHB Tax Practice 

Assist in preparing reports and presentations for leadership, focusing on operational performance, growth opportunities, and risk management.

Handle special projects or initiatives related to analysis and overseeing the revenue, people, and the economic aspects of the Tax practice area as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, related field, or equivalent work experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably within a professional services or public accounting firm, with 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role

Strong understanding of accounting firm operations, experience managing budgets, financial performance, and operational metrics

Demonstrate experience establishing and analyzing key operational metrics

Proficiency in ERP systems, and accounting software, with Workday experience preferred

Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff and leadership
