Overview Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day to day activities of staff that are actively operating the bulk electric system (BES). The Shift Supervisor, Transmission Control Center maintains an overarching view of the entire transmission system, provides training and mentoring to staff and models human performance initiatives expectations. In addition, the position is responsible for providing coordination and direction of activities among Transmission System Operators, field crews and Relay Test in the event of a system disturbance. Responsibilities Direct supervision of the Transmission System Operators (TSO) and Sr. Transmission System Operators in day to day decisions involving the operation, construction and maintenance of the transmission system to assure a high quality of service performance. Ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of transmission facilities in the PPL service area during normal and emergency by directing action to relieve electrical system stresses caused by contingencies. Coordinates communication within and external to the Transmission Control Center relative to requested outages and assures that the T-0 outage week work packages are complete and accurate. Acts as the reliability coordinator on shift. Assists in the development of specific NERC compliance documentation for all NERC Standards. Assists developing standard documentation for RF, NERC and PJM audits. Provides testimony and gathers evidence for standards. Provides direction and observation for Transmission System Operators and Sr. Transmission System Operators. Ensures a highly motivated and effectively utilized staff by providing direct supervision and training and development to employees and having regular coaching and performance discussions with employees. Contributes to the achievement of human resource objectives and commitments by effectively administering established policies and programs including those pertaining to safety, productivity, goal setting and work planning. Provides direct OTJ and mentoring for employees, coordinating those activities with the Transmission Operations training group. Models the Human Performance behaviors desirable for employees. Enables employees and self to seek continuous improvement in technologies and processes related to real time transmission operations, through constant study and personal development. Supports event free operations in the Transmission Control Center by conducting human performance observations and supporting or leading investigations of Human Performance events. Issues communications to key company personnel concerning significant system conditions and events. Coordinates notification of reportable incidents to customers, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders as appropriate. Performs all duties of Transmission System Operator, as required, assuring required records and logs are up to date. Ensures continuous supervisory availability by being available for call-out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Required Education: Associate’s degree in related technical field with four (4) years’ experience of distribution or transmission system operations, experience or field operations experience at an electric utility Bachelor's Degree in related technical field with two (2) years’ experience of distribution or transmission system operations In lieu of degree, candidates with six (6) years of distribution or transmission system operations experience or field operations experience at an electric utility will be considered. Required Experience: Thorough understanding of transmission system dynamics including relationships of electric interconnections Extensive knowledge of electric system operation practices. Licenses / Certifications / Other Qualifications: PJM Transmission Operator certification within 1 Year NERC Transmission Operator certification within 1 Year Completion of PPL EU TSO training program are required within one (1) year of attaining position. PJM Generation certification within 1-1/2 Yrs Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a PPL EU Sr. TSO or in a supervisory role Specific knowledge of PPL and PJM or other Regional Transmission Operator (RTO) practices PJM Transmission Operator certification and/or NERC Transmission Operator certification
