Located in Norfolk Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, evidence based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). Reporting to the Director of Education, the Teacher provides developmentally appropriate classroom instruction to assigned students according to IEP/IIP goals and objectives, student strengths and learning preferences, research-supported methods and techniques, and Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health’s recommended practices. Additional duties and responsibilities include: Implements the Behavior Management Plan, to assess and document behavior progress; to adjust behavioral strategies in consultation with the treatment team, and as needed, in order to maximize students behavioral success. Assesses student’s academic achievement continuously through a variety of methods; document progress and adjust instructional planning as needed, to maximize student achievement. Maintains consistent communication with both internal and external stakeholders (staff, parents, guardians, local education agencies); attends meetings; keeps accurate records; completes assigned reports; updates IEP’s/IIP’s as required. Participates in professional development activities, including on-going site training, relevant off-site classes, and workshops, etc. Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals; fosters effective communication with staff members, and champions dialogue in addressing concerns. Serves as a role model for child and adolescent patients/residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence. Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively with department in the attainment of organizational objectives. Works collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve and exceed quality patient care; displays a high degree of professionalism in all activities and interactions with students, staff, parents, agency personnel, and community members, etc. Qualifications **Math and/or Special Education Preferred** Must possess a current, unexpired, active Virginia teaching license; math/science and middle/high school teaching credentials/certifications strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning principles and theories. Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom effectively, including utilizing methods of observation, interaction, and data collection. Demonstrated ability to establish individual (IEP) and group classroom goals and expectations, and hold students accountable in the attainment of those goals. Demonstrated experience teaching and instructing children and adolescents in behavioral modification settings, special education settings, or residential treatment setting. Three or more years of teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Must be able to handle multiple competing task, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency. Must possess CPR and First Aid certification, or obtain such within 30 days of hire; must complete “Handle With Care” training, as required by hospital.
