For over 100 years, HeartShare has dedicated itself to improving the lives of people needing special services and support. The HeartShare team, now 2,100 employees and growing, helps individuals develop to their fullest potential and lead meaningful and enriched lives.
Heart Share Human Services of New York has four preschools and a school located in Brooklyn and Queens focused on maximizing the potential of every student no matter the learning disability. Through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis and TEACH along with the New York State Common Core curriculum each student is provided with an education experience geared towards their needs. The Heart Share School also provides different therapies and physical education courses geared to what the students want and need. The Heart Share School is also a family and community that strive to help each other out with a common goal of helping the children succeed. These are necessary steps to create the impact we are looking for which is provided them the keys to succeed on their own in the future. The HeartShare School operates as a 12-month program. Special Education Teachers at The HeartShare School provide tools necessary and integral in helping advance the student academic experience. Special Education Teachers at The HeartShare School report to the Educational Director and works with the Behavior Support Team to ensure that every student at every level of development can reach higher levels of achievement. Some of the duties that Special Education Teachers hold includes:
Prepare weekly lesson plans, incorporating IEP goals, PBIS values, and developmentally appropriate activities. Write and update IEP goals, behavioral objectives, and intervention strategies. Monitor student progress using data collection, and write monthly progress notes, quarterly reports, and annual reviews. Design and manage a safe and appropriate learning environment. Ensure the health and safety of all students. Notify supervisors of any maintenance needs immediately. Maintain accurate attendance records. Collaborate with Teacher Assistants, providing instruction and supervision. Work closely with related service providers to ensure skill generalization. Participate in emergency interventions, PBIS, and team meetings. Uphold and demonstrate PBIS values in the classroom and school-wide. Support students and families by encouraging open communication. Provide information regarding academic, social/emotional, and behavior management needs. Participate in staff development and school-wide meetings leading up to annual CSE reviews.Benefits
