Summary: Our Early Learning Center (ELC) strives to provide high-quality early childhood education and early intervention for children with and without disabilities in an inclusive educational setting. The Teacher Assistant participates in the planning and implementation of classroom activities and provides basic care for Preschool children (2.5-3 years) enrolled in the program.
Schedule & Location: The ELC is located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in SE Washington, DC. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 7:30a - 5:30p. This is a full time position from 8am - 5pm.
This position has an hourly salary range of $24.52 - $26.09 depending on education level.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
·Assist with the planning and implementation of classroom activities
· Assume responsibility for the classroom when the Teacher is absent
· Maintain appropriate cleanliness of the room and materials including strict adherence to program sanitation and procedures
· Lesson planning for small group activities
· Ensure that written and verbal communication with parent consistently occurs and is documented
· Participate in staff development training activities and learning opportunities
· Present relevant information at team meetings and parent meetings when needed
Education & Experience:
· High School Diploma and Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate required
· COVID-19 - you are required to be fully vaccinated prior to your first day of employment
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Lifting of up to 30 pounds is required. Other physical demands includes bending and stooping to assist children with dressing needs, toileting, transitioning from sitting on floor or chair to standing during classroom activities, transferring non-ambulatory children to and from wheelchairs, strollers, chairs, therapy equipment, changing tables, cribs, etc.
Children with a diagnose such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Sensory Integration disorder, Behavioral problems, Cerebral Palsy, often will pull/jerk away or bolt/run from caregivers. The ability to intervene in these situations is required. Moving or lifting of any child may be required in an emergency situation (i.e. to assist toddlers in evacuating the building or to ascend or descend stairs) and/or to prevent injury on playground or other outdoor situations/activities.
