Posting Details Position Information Job Title Teacher - Music Preparatory Division Full Time/Part Time Part Time FLSA Exempt General Job Description This is a professional position responsible for teaching private and group lessons to students enrolled in the Music Preparatory Division, participating in division activities, and supporting all areas of the division. Responsible for evaluating progress of students, preparing students for performance, and encouraging students in their music studies. May have additional responsibility of organizing and leading youth ensembles. Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, Music Preparatory Division. Essential Job Functions 1. Plans and executes engaging lessons, including technique, repertoire, and music theory.2. Fosters a positive and encouraging learning environment.3. Assesses and monitors students’ progress and provides constructive feedback.4. Prepares students for performance, recitals, and auditions and encourages students in their music studies.5. Communicates effectively with students and their parents/guardians regarding progress and practice expectations.6. Participates in division activities such as teacher meetings, fundraisers, registration and recruiting assignments.7. Supports all areas of the division and demonstrates commitment to the long-term development of the division.8. Liaises with area music teachers to recruit new students. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Assists with special projects as assigned.2. Performs other related duties as assigned. 12. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties. Physical Demands Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including ability to stand up for more than an hour at a time, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Required Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Required Experience and Training Proficiency in playing an instrument and an understanding of pedagogy methods is required. Previous teaching experience with students of varying ages and skill levels is required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in music or music education is preferred.
