ABOUT US New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region, serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life. Summary: The Teacher’s primary objective is to provide participants in the After School Setting with instruction according to their field of expertise. In this role, you will foster student’s intellectual growth by promoting research in a variety of academic topics with the end goal of developing a strong skill set in the content area. Your role is to support program instructional/enrichment goals by leading activities that challenge and stimulate students. Schedule: Part-Time Monday – Friday 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm (Days/shifts vary depending on site needs) This role requires you to be in person. Essential Job Functions: + Create and execute lesson plans, evaluate each participant’s progress via a comprehensive grading system and provide innovative instruction to the group + Present the content using language appropriate to the participants’ age group and as outlined in lesson plans. + Provide participants with opportunities to practice and grow the skill sets they have obtained through educational and recreational activities + Implement a system to ensure the successful delivery of material and a feedback system between staff and participants + Other duties as assigned Qualifications: + NYS Teacher Certification. + At least 3 years experience successfully teaching and instructing youth + Knowledge of curriculum writing and execution of lesson plans + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families and school partners including school administration and staff + Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills + Analyzes problems and implements solutions in a fast-paced setting, paying strong attention to detail. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS + May be required to walk up and down stairs + May be required to lift heavy objects/materials as needed + Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School, but may be required to interact with the community at large during trips or events.
