Teacher/Tutor, Crisis Residences

As a Teacher/Tutor, Crisis Residences, you will provide educational support to the youth in the programs. You will monitor all youth educational materials and coordinating school services with corresponding school district staff such as school counselors, social workers, teachers and principals. You will report to the Assistant Director of Crisis Residences and will work onsite.

Responsibilities:

Contact youth’s current school districts to obtain materials for youth to work on at the designated school hours while at the Crisis Residences. Assist students with school materials provided by their school programs including homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks. Work with students to help them understand important concepts, especially those learned in the classroom. Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions. Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics. Develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides. Provide students positive and constructive feedback. Offer feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers. Build meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds. Manage the safety and well-being of students through the use of established program procedures. Follow agency procedures for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports and incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence. Establish relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress. Work with program directors, supervisors, clinicians and staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students. Attend meetings, training, professional learning sessions (e.g. first aid, TCI, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management) to enhance professional skills. Perform clerical tasks; maintain records of student progress; develop and file incident reports; maintain student files; check daily census; make copies; develop educational displays and instructional material; maintain and operate computers.

Requirements and Education:

High school diploma or GED with at least two years of experience working directly with children in an educational setting or a Degree in a related field with at least 6 months working directly with children in an educational setting required.
