Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of course instructor. Prepares course material. Coordinates logistics for field courses, including managing camping equipment and directing students in camp maintenance. Drives vehicle with students to mapping areas.Contributes to field observations (e.g. geological mapping, structural measurements, and rock descriptions) to create marking rubrics.Assists with tutoring and grading.  Performs related duties.

Qualifications:

B.Sc. degree. Enrollment in Earth & Planetary Sciences M.Sc. or Ph.D. graduate program.Must be able to read and navigate on a topographic map.Must have working knowledge of undergraduate-level structural geology (equivalent to a B or higher in EPSC 303 or EPSC 231).Must be comfortable with field mapping techniques including making measurements with a Brunton compass, describing, and identifying deformation structures in sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and constructing cross sections, reading and navigating on topographic maps. Must be organized and approachable.Ability to deal effectively with diverse range of people.English, spoken and written. Applicant must have a driver's license which is valid in the USA and be experienced with highway and city driving.While not mandatory, experience and expertise in the area is an asset.
