Teaching Assistant Job Details Job Location Champlin Ave - Utica, NY Position Type Full Time Education Level High School Salary Range $18.93 - $18.93 Hourly Travel Percentage None Job Shift Day Job Category Education Description Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: The Teaching Assistant will work under the supervision of the classroom teacher and under the general supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal to assist in maintaining a safe and well planned educational environment and program. Principle Assigned Responsibilities: 1. Reinforce the lesson plans of the day as delegated by the classroom teacher.2. Assist in the completion of daily classroom paperwork and documentation, and recording of data regarding data about performance and behavior of students.3. Assist in teaching lessons under the supervision of the classroom teacher and in the absence of the classroom teacher. 4. Assist in adapting instructional materials and supplies to meet the needs of the student. 5. Assume responsibility of the class in the absence of the teacher. 6. Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe classroom environment. 7. Attend any meetings in place of the teacher when s/he is absent.8. Attend all Teaching Assistant meetings.9. Perform various child supervision duties such as: escorting a child to and from classes, provide appropriate supervision during various class periods. 10. Substitute in other classrooms on an as needed basis per supervisory request. 11. Participate in all House of the Good Shepherd and Tilton School required trainings. 12. Ability learn and apply appropriate behavior management techniques acquired through Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. 13. All other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration during scheduled work hours. Qualifications Education & Experience Requirements: 1. High School Diploma and 18 college credit hours. 2. Completion of New York State Education Department (NYSED) Level I Teaching Assistant Certification within the first 90 days of employment at the Tilton School. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: 1. Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model.2. Good verbal and written communication skills. 3. Organized and efficient.4. Understanding of basic needs and development issues of children in a way that promotes growth and respects individuality.5. Asks age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listens to children’s responses.6. Develops a warm, positive, nurturing relationship with each child.7. Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect.8. Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures.9. Uses observations as a way to “get to know” children – their interests and developmental levels.10. Interacts with children during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior.11. Adapts activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual children.12. CPR and First Aid is required. 13. Valid New York State Driver’s license.
