The Software and Societal Systems (S3D) department within the School of Computer Science explores the vital intersection of the confluence of software, systems and society to understand how computational biology might better serve humanity. We are studying the bigger picture of computing in context in order to develop tools, policies, methods, and much more – all in the same making the world a safer, more equitable, better place to call home.
We are seeking a part-time Staff-Teaching Assistant for a course in AI Governance.
Core ResponsibilitiesContribute to the design of homework assignments, be able to hold office hours and assist with the design and grading of exams.Technical understanding and ability to teach key risks associated with the design, development, and commercialization of AI systems, including issues of transparency and interpretability, fairness and bias, agency, security, safety and privacy.Teaching, advising and mentoring.Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within the School of Computer Science. Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who is able to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.
QualificationsBachelor's Degree; Master's preferredPrior exposure to AI Governance issues including ethical considerations, risk management frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF), and regulations (e.g., EU AI Act).An understanding of both technical and organizational guardrails available to mitigate these risks (e.g. differential privacy, red teaming, interpretability, security, model alignment, etc. but also organizational processes required to support effective governanceExperience with AI GovernanceStrong written and verbal communication skillsA combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.RequirementsSuccessful background check investigationJoining the CMU team opens the door to an array of exceptional benefits available to eligible employees.
