The successful candidate in this role will ensure the safe and efficient operations of the ASL (Analytical Services) lab which supports a variety of internal and external clients while maintaining the highest expectations for quality management. The ASL lab has the following key specialty areas: gas, water, oil, asphalt, and field sampling in both upstream and downstream facilities.

Work Environment:

This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area

This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation (5 days on followed by 2 days off, Mon – Fri, 8 hours per day)

What you’ll do:

Ensure that quality management system (ISO 17025 & American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials AASHTO) is maintained by completing, monitoring, and enforcing the ASL QC program which meets the requirements for the above accreditation

Collaborate and communicate with internal clients including Lloydminster Refinery, Asphalt Technical Services, Crude Marketing, HMGP, Lloydminster Upstream Conventional Heavy Oil and Thermal

Ensure adherence with the ASL preventative maintenance program for laboratory instruments

Review and approve lab related requisitions mainly through SAP ensuring technical specifications meet requirements

Ensure that laboratory documentation (methods, SOP modification) and record retention is maintained

Act as the ASL representative on the downstream laboratory community of practice

Lead research related to continuous improvement of laboratory practices, equipment, methodology, cost saving opportunities

Develop and monitoring annual operating cost and revenue budgets

Identify and establish training and career development programs for laboratory personnel

Conduct assurance activities to ensure adherence to COIMS, lab quality management system (ISO 17025) and all HSE requirements

Lead monthly laboratory meetings including safety and operation meetings

Be the ASL laboratory representative for business improvements projects including LIMS upgrades and new laboratory building project

Monitor daily activities of the ASL Laboratory

Single point of contact for external clients

Troubleshoot and report network or LIMS issues

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

Legally authorized to work in Canada

Diploma in chemical technology

Minimum 8+ years laboratory related experience with preference in the petroleum industry

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and previous leadership experience are considered as assets

Knowledge of ISO 17025 and AASHTO

Strong troubleshooting and decision making abilities

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
