Role Summary
This role is based in NOSAI under Capital Markets, Securities Finance. The team provides operational support to securities finance trade desk in respect of trade support, settlements and collateral functions for Northern Trust’s clients in all markets where we operate & also supports northern trust’s agency lending program, a number of client directed lending arrangements and third party lending activities. The position reports to the Section Manager.
Major Duties:
Serve as the first level of management and escalation
Develops and maintains subject level expertise in the product.
Should be able to understand organizational & division goals, strategies and should be able to help connect to the team’s performance in achieving the same
Ensure that the KPI/KRI/QAI are being performed in a timely manner
Responsible for allocation of work to the team and other day-to-day management responsibilities
Organizes the work of the team, develop periodic goals, assigns tasks, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work
Identify error or risk prone areas within the team & build robust controls to mitigate the same and work with the Section Manager to test internal controls not only within the sub function but across all sub functions and report accordingly
Conducts performance management and provides monthly and regular feedback to staff on core task performance. If needed, escalates to the next level in case of staffing and disciplinary actions to be addressed.
Displays extremely high ownership for both the team and the process. Steps up and makes effective decisions wherever and whenever required.
Ensure that the team understands and works within ethics, code of conduct and professional standards that guide and govern the business and working within the guidelines set by the regulatory regime in which Northern Trust operates as appropriate to the role
Work and effectively engage the team. Help the team members through their employee journey to ensure that the organization is able to retain best talent.
To coordinate, facilitate, plan and conduct cross trainings across the division on soft skills, interpersonal skills and process based requirements.
Developing and leading a team which is responsive to dynamic organizational and operational changes.
Supports the management in fostering a high performance culture where people are empowered to make decisions that affect their work/environment.
Regular reviews of process documentation assuring that changes are documented on a timely basis
Build and maintain strong relationships with Team members, Middle Office and other relevant partner areas such as Risk, Audit, and HR etc.
Acts as a back-up for the Section Manager and also contributes to MIS reporting
Participates/drives efficiency project(s) at division or practice level
Minimum Requirements
Graduate from Business, Economics, Accounting or Banking & Finance disciplineMinimum 8 years of work experience in financial industry, prior people management exposure will be given preferenceCandidate having prior experience and background with Securities Operations is highly preferredMust be flexible to work in shifts and/or on a rotational basisKnowledge and Skills
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Should be confident while conversing with people and audience
Should be an effective listener
Ability to adapt quickly to new situations and initiatives
Should respect diversity and create an atmosphere of inclusion in the team
Should have general awareness of market wide risk and compliance policies such as AML Information Security, BCP, Pandemic planning etc.
Ability to understand & comprehend risks associated with the Lending domain and the implications on operations
Strong understanding of aspects of Internal Control, its effect on Operations and implementation Knowledge on systems used such as TLM, MTS, Fundmaster, Equilend, Pirum etc. would be an advantage
Working knowledge or experience in Trade Settlements, Entitlements, Management reporting, Reconciliations and Billing would be an added advantage
Comprehensive understanding of the Asset Servicing Practice and its effect on the Financial Service Industry
