Team Lead-Machining-1st Shift
Perform all required Team Leader activities and coordinate all day-to-day work items within the Machining department.

Standard Duties:  

Identify unsafe work practices and work with Safety Leader to resolve. 

Ensure monthly safety training occurs. 

Ensure Spark training is completed monthly for team. 

Effectively resolve workplace conflicts/employee relation issues 

Professionally and effectively communicate with team members, customers, support groups and management. 

Effectively communicate daily information in start-up meetings (Safety, KPIs, plant communications, etc.).  

Create and sustain standardize work for their area of responsibility. 

Act as the subject matter expert in their area.  

Identify normal vs. abnormal condition and take immediate appropriate action. 

Lead problem solving activities for their area of responsibility. 

Provide leadership and guidance for team in performing responsibilities and maintaining continuous improvement. 

Teach, coach and be knowledgeable regarding KPI’S to ensure objectives cost are met. 

Ensure all associates are qualified in respective areas (training documents complete and up to date). 

Assign daily duties to team members. 

Actively participate in leadership development activities sponsored by BorgWarner. 

Sustain the Operator Certification process. 

Work with operators to assist trouble-shooting activities for set-up, tool and equipment adjustments. 

Compile, store, and retrieve production data as necessary. 

Prepare schedules and coordinate activities to ensure production and quality meets specifications. 

Ensure timely and accurate production reporting. 

Ensure L2L hourly pitch charts are complete, accurate or deleted when not running. 

Relay reschedules to planning as needed on a day-to-day basis (missed shipments). 

Run equipment when staffing issues arise, move products in and out of the work area, assist with tool changes, complete quality checks, etc. 

Assist the PQT in performing quality, SPC and documentation requirements. 

Perform other duties as assigned.  

 

 

Safety, Health, and Physical Requirements: 

Stand for long periods of time including during operation of stand-up lifts.  

Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. repetitively. 

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

Repetitive motion activities including but not limited to loading machines, unloading machines, standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts. 

All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with the safety policies and procedures.

Education:    
High School diploma, GED or basic skills assessment required. 

Certifications pertaining to related manufacturing field strongly preferred. 

 

Experience:   

3-5 years related experience and/or training in a machine shop field preferred. 

1 year of related Machining experience preferred. 

SAP/ERP systems, Operation of PIT and Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment 

1 year of Leadership experience preferred. 

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

 

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SAP inventory software, excel spreadsheet software and word processing software.
