Team Leader - Level IV - 1st Shift
**DESCRIPTION** We are looking for a Talented Team Leader to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Plainfield, IN. **Job Summary:** Coordinates the activities of a group of employees in order to meet established production specifications and schedules including volume, cost, wastage targets and quality standards. **In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:** • **Enhancing Safety:** By stopping work and reporting any major injury hazards immediately, you’ll help maintain a safe working environment. • **Promoting Health:** Reporting any work-related injuries, illnesses, incidents, or hazards will contribute to a healthier workplace. • **Ensuring Compliance:** Adhering to HSE standards, policies, and procedures ensures that the workplace meets all safety and environmental requirements. • **Upholding Quality:** Following standard work, process documentation, and quality procedures like SPC and poka-yoke will ensure high-quality outputs. • **Supporting Delivery:** Monitoring team performance and coordinating tasks will help meet work specifications, schedules, and quality standards. • **Facilitating Communication:** Effectively communicating with team members and support teams will ensure smooth operations and quick resolution of issues. • **Fostering Continuous Improvement:** Participating in training and development, and coaching less experienced team members, will drive ongoing improvements. • **Encouraging Teamwork:** Actively engaging in ways to improve quality, safety, processes, and material flow will enhance overall team performance. **RESPONSIBILITIES** **To be successful in this role you will need the following:** • **Collaborate Effectively:** Build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with others to achieve shared goals. • **Communicate Clearly:** Develop and deliver communications that are tailored to the needs of different audiences, ensuring clarity and understanding. • **Make Quality Decisions:** Make timely and well-informed decisions that help move the organization forward. • **Drive Results:** Consistently achieve results, even when faced with challenging circumstances. • **Ensure Accountability:** Hold yourself and others accountable to meet commitments and deliver on promises. • **Instill Trust:** Gain the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. • **Manage Complexity:** Navigate and make sense of complex and sometimes contradictory information to solve problems effectively. • **Handle Conflict:** Manage conflict situations effectively, minimizing disruptions and maintaining a positive work environment. • **Champion Health and Safety:** Model proactive health and safety behaviors, identify and report hazards, and participate in actions to improve workplace safety. • **Apply Manufacturing Knowledge:** Implement changes in processes, equipment, and applications to meet functional needs and drive continuous improvement. • **Value Differences:** Appreciate and leverage the diverse perspectives and cultures within the organization to enhance collaboration and innovation. **Education, Licenses, Certifications:** • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations. • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. **Experience:** • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Overview:** Works with the Production Facilitator to ensure that production is run with the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in order to maintain customer demands. **Job Responsibilities:** **•** Train all team members on the safety and quality procedures and standards, and standardized work procedures. • Train new team members on existing and new process changes as necessary and maintain training log. • Carry out daily checks to ensure the equipment and machines are in safe working order, and operators are performing work in an ergonomically safe manner. • Take corrective action on all unsafe work conditions, including advising on how to improve ergonomically unsafe conditions. • Practice and adhere to all safety requirements. Ensure that all team members and visitors know and follow the safety rules and procedures while in the area. • Perform daily safety walks and checks in your area, including PPE checks for employees, ensure team members perform standardized work, and review equipment racks. • Clearly understand the operation and safety hazards of each piece of equipment in your area • Complete and forward all close call and incident reports to EHS Manager within 24 hours. • Communicate all safety problems and concerns with the team. • Determine the workplace organizational standards and ensure that 5S is being followed by the team per posted work assignments. • Communicate quality alerts, concerns, and issues to team and develop short- and long-term corrective actions using 8D process. • Assist in ensuring compliance to ISO 9001 and communicate responsibilities to team members • Complete first and last piece check lists each day. • Assist quality department in the development of work instructions for all processes within the team. Post and communicate changes as necessary. • After a problem has occurred (safety, quality and production), perform a root cause analysis to prevent future problems using appropriate corrective action process (8D, Internal Audit and lean manufacturing). • Create visual items concerned with quality standards. • Personally verify that a defect listed as “repaired” by a team member was properly repaired and implement short-term and long-term corrective actions for this issue. • Lead continuous improvement activities to continue to eliminate waste. Support the process and productivity improvements. Chart and communicate improvements to the team. • Encourage team member suggestions on improving safety, quality and production within the team, and keep them informed on the status of their suggestions. • Know and be able to measure all quality standards which relate to the team process. • Maintain APS and hour-by-hour boards and keep all information on the board fully updated, including post quality tracking charts and sheets, audit and maintain safety board and flexibility charts. • Respond to Andon calls before production is stopped. Make repairs while production is running as much as possible. • Allocate manpower according to the situation and team member skills.
