JOB SUMMARY

The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for all laboratory procedures, venipuncture procedures.  She/he will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory equipment in good working condition.  The MLT will also oversee procedures, methods and protocols, and maintain quality control protocols and any required assessment programs related to laboratory.  The MLT will call patients regarding any abnormal lab reports or action to be taken due to the lab results.  Record action in the patient chart and initial.  The MLT will perform all drug screens for industrial physicals and other physicals as requested by the physician.  She/he will also maintain an up-to-date drug screen book as required by the procedure manual.  The MLT will also maintain supplies for drug testing, kits, etc.  She/he will also order supplies for the laboratory and keep necessary stock as required.  This will be done in coordination with the Office Manager's ordering procedures.  The MLT will also review all laboratory reports for any abnormalities for the physician, record and report to the physician any abnormal readings.  She/he will prepare specimens for laboratory testing and pick-up by appropriate personnel.  The MLT will also make sure the lab complies with all OSHA and CLIA regulations.  Also responsible for the Blood Borne Pathogens compliance and keeping the MSDS book up-to-date along with the procedure manuals.  The MLT will set up quality assurance programs as well as quality control for proficiency testing to meet CLIA standards.  The MLT will be responsible for education employees on new OSHA/Blood Borne Pathogens when required. 

The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will escort the patient to the examining room and take vital signs, height, weight, and history. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for, setting up surgical trays, cleaning surgical instruments and sterilization. He/she will maintain cleanliness and stocking of examination rooms. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will also review all lab reports for any abnormalities for the physician, record, and have physician sign off on all reports. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will call patients at the physician's request regarding any abnormal lab reports or actions to be taken due to lab results, sending report to medical records for placing in patient's chart. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will return patient phone calls and call in prescriptions at physician's orders; he/she also calls for insurance referrals/precertification when required. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician assists with scheduling appointments. He/she will triage patients according to severity of need. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for procedures such as EKGs, oximetry, stress testing and PFTs. The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for making sure all procedures; tests, waivers, etc. are signed by patients to ensure financial success of the practice.

The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician will be cross-trained for other medical staff members as well as in other areas of office for fill in as necessary.

The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician must represent the practice in a professional manner at all times. Their work areas must be organized and neat; their personal appearance should also be maintained according to the standards of the practice and network.

The ICC Medical Laboratory Technician  is responsible for greeting all patients, collecting and documenting correct demographic and billing information, an accurate cash drawer, issuing receipts, daily deposits, assist patients with scheduling/rescheduling/confirming of all appointments, and maintaining an orderly flow of patients through the reception and lobby area.  Representatives will be required to perform patient access activities in support of all physician practices, and multiple outpatient ancillary departments and inpatient units.  Duties also include pre-certification of admissions and special procedures with insurance companies, including eligibility.  Must understand process flows and software technology required to support physician office environments, hospital inpatient and outpatient services, as appropriate

Education, Certification/Experience Requirements:

MLT registry eligible or MLT (ASCP) registered with limited experience. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Associate degree from an accredited Medial Laboratory Technician Program.
