Responsibilities Position Summary: To assist in the direct care and management of children, adolescent and young adult residents (age 10 to 22 years) as prescribed by the physician and treatment team; to provide supervision, safety and crisis management for the resident population; to complete documentation of resident behavior and participation in programming; to adhere to the scheduled activities; role model positive, mature behavior; utilize positive behavioral strategies to minimize resident crisis and maximize success. Physical Demands: Must be able to: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Stand, walk, kneel, and reach while working with residents for approximately 80-90% of the day Use the full range of body motion including handling and physically restraining residents when necessary Perform First Aid and CPR Key Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, assists in the implementation of the treatment plan for each resident, by completing monthly summary reports. Responds to crisis situations and manages resident behaviors in accordance with the Behavioral Management Program. Assists in providing safe delivery of care to meet the goals and objectives of each resident’s plan of care. Assists with the unit milieu to guide the development of acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly implementing the behavioral program, emphasizing good choices, and positive interactions. Completes documentation regarding resident supervision and participation in the program in a timely manner. Ensures all living and working areas are clean and sanitary for the residents and the next shift that comes in to work. Ensure all living areas and work areas meet standards of Virginia State Regulations at all times. Assists the teacher in providing instructions and training in classrooms. Attend and participate in all unit meetings and trainings. Consistently follows the program activity schedule and implements all safety and security procedures. Serve as a role model for residents. Performs other duties as assigned. Job specific Performance Standards Fulfills responsibilities to the facility in adherence to philosophy and general policy, Unit of Measure: Adheres to the following requirements. a. Fulfills attendance requirements. b. Works required holidays, weekend shifts, and shift hold overs. c. Maintains CPR and First Aid certification. d. Adheres to dress code. e. Adheres to facility safety practices. f. Demonstrates ability and flexibility to work different shifts as well as different units, g. Consistently uses badge to punch in and out for work, h. Follows programming schedule. i. Ensures facility cleanliness standards are met consistently. j. Serves as a good role model to residents. Completes documentation and implementation of treatment plans ensuring the involvement and understanding by the residents by using correct terminology, monthly summaries, progress reports and submits appropriate written and verbal reports by required deadlines, Unit of Measure: • Review of progress notes, daily activity sheets and other written reports. • Completes supervision, participation, and behavioral documentation daily. • Completes communication log at appropriate times with professional entries, • Completion of competency requirements annually. • Recognizes and reports to appropriate person physical/medical/behavioral status of the resident in a timely manner. • Attends and contributes to change of shift report. • Implements psycho educational and psychosocial groups as assigned and documents participation. Ensures resident’s rights are observed by encouraging questions regarding treatment and explaining procedures. Works cooperatively as a member of multidisciplinary team. Unit of Measure: • Observation by supervisor four times during the year. • Ensures resident’s needs for clothing, hygiene items and other personal needs are met. • Assist resident to successfully work program and assists with discharge planning. • Attends team meetings, staffing, and other treatment plan meetings. • Attends all mandatory in-service training, • Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure follow through on all aspects of residents treatment program. • Communicates with resident’s family regarding resident’s progress and current program. Acts as advocate in providing safe delivery of care to promote wellness. Demonstrates the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, ability to de-escalate residents and to complete incident reports as necessary. Provides supervision of resident’s milieu program. Unit of Measure: • Observation of supervisor during crisis situations. • Review of records shows each resident has an individual schedule that is being implemented. • Assists teacher in providing instructions and training during the school hours. • Actively participates and helps to facilitate community meetings. • Actively participates and facilitates leisure activities to include outings when assigned. • Provides transportation to residents as needed. • Knows, follows, and implements facility behavior management Ensures all living and working areas are clean and sanitary for the residents and the next shift that comes in to work. Ensure living and working areas meet standards of Virginia State Regulations at all times. Qualifications Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and units as necessary, and ability to maintain resident’s confidentiality. Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit-setting, responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job. Education: High school education/GED required Experience: Prefer Six months related experience with adolescents and children or related college coursework in a related field. Previous experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or developmental delays preferred. Licensure: Prefer Current Virginia driver’s licensure with a good driving record, CPR certification, First Aid Certificate, and Crisis Management Certification.
