Job Description

Summary of Position:

The Technical Service Manager position oversees all technical aspects for the Sharon Tube Division of Zekelman Industries.  This position will have responsibility throughout both the Farrell, PA & Niles, OH locations. The position will report directly to the President of the Division and manage four direct reports.

 

Responsibilities/Job Duties:

Provides technical expertise, knowledge, and leadership for all Electric Weld and Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) tubing related operations.Conducts and interprets metallurgical analysis of internally and externally produced raw materials and finished goods.Supervises and develops the division’s quality assurance associates.Trains the division’s production associates in all areas of quality and technology.Oversees and monitors all Statistical Process Control (SPC) related operations including equipment, data transfers, reporting, installation, and training (practical and theory); documents training where appropriate.Provides special certifications and material test reports to customers as needed.Validates the quality of incoming raw materials from internal and external suppliers.Participates in industry trade associations, such as American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM).Oversees (Production Part Approval Process) PPAP preparation and prepares annual PPAP revalidations.Responds to customer complaints/claims for Sharon Tube Division; issues complaint forms, investigates root cause of defects, determines the validity of claims, completes disposition of claims as needed via commercial/Customer Service Liasion.Oversees the installation and operation of an IATF16949 and ISO 9002 quality system.Oversees the Advanced Product Quality Planning and Control Plan (APQP) process including customer specification reviews.Promote and foster an environment of continuous improvement and Safety.Completes other duties/special projects as assigned by the President of the Division.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

BS/BE Degree in metallurgy or material science is required; advanced degree is preferredA minimum of 10 years of experience in pipe and tube manufacturing and analysis is required, ERW and cold drawing experience is preferred.Strong communication, decision making, and organizational skills.Ability to travel, sometimes on short notice, in order to satisfy customers.Experience in leading a technical or quality organization.A thorough knowledge and understanding of ERW and DOM products including end use applications, operations, and processes is preferred.Knowledge of and experience with ISO / IATF certification, auditing programs, six sigma/ Lean Manufacturing, and statistical analysis is preferred. Thorough knowledge of AXIS ERP is preferred.Legally eligible for employment in United States is required.M/F/D/V
