We seek a highly experienced Trailer Tow Technical Specialist with deep expertise in designing, developing, and testing electronic trailer towing systems. This senior role demands strong electrical engineering, embedded systems, and automotive communication protocol skills. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of trailer braking performance, connection detection systems, and relevant safety regulations, including ISO 26262, along with knowledge of the trailer manufacturing industry and aftermarket solutions. BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering (or related).
10+ years' experience in designing/testing electronic trailer towing systems.
Even better, you may have...
MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering (or related).
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
Deep knowledge of CAN, LIN, and other automotive communication protocols.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
Familiar with software development methods and tools
Strong understanding of electrical circuits and ISO 26262 functional safety principles.
Detailed knowledge of trailer braking systems and connection detection.
Knowledge of trailer manufacturing and the aftermarket.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

What you'll do…
Be Ford’s lead expert on trailer tow systems and components. Lead design of complex trailer tow systems (brake actuation, lighting, lamp detection), including defining system requirements, component specifications, test methods and signoff criteriaLead hands-on testing and validation of trailer tow systems.Work with in-house hardware and software teams to deliver Ford trailer tow systemsPossess in-depth knowledge of trailer braking systems and connection detection.Conduct safety analyses (HARA, FTA, FMEA) and ensure regulatory compliance.Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide technical leadership.Mentor junior engineers, educating them about the trailer tow systems and how to effectively engineer products with quality and best cost.Contribute to continuous product improvement, including hands-on addressing of quality issues.Create and manage comprehensive technical documentation.Stay current on trailer towing technologies and integrate them into our products.Understand aftermarket components, installation, and customer needs.Collaborate with trailer manufacturers to understand their integration requirements.Manage projects effectively.
