Posting Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research, to support several X-ray astronomy research projects via data analysis and (dry) laboratory activities, working within the group of Principal Research Scientist Herman Marshall. Work includes analysis of X-ray astronomy data from various satellites, including Chandra, Swift, and the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, data consisting of images and spectra of astronomical systems with black holes or neutron stars to be measured for timing, polarization, or spatial variations; prepare results for publication and scientific writing; laboratory activities including operating a source of X-rays and the X-ray beamline vacuum system, setting up and monitoring measurement sequences controlled by LabView-based virtual instruments, and assisting with system reconfiguration that may involve optical components and electronic detectors.
