Technical Communications - Tech Writer

Job Overview

Komatsu is looking for a technical writer with a passion for technical communication, ready to help us redefine the user experience of our customers. 

The Technical Writer manages technical content development and delivery for operation manuals, service technician manuals, and parts catalogues. They collaborate with engineers, field personnel, trainers, and more to ensure quality information for customers. They ensure that content is accurate, complete, and meets quality and style standards. They will support writing standards and style guidelines. They will also support innovative new solutions to legacy methods of writing to improve the customer experience.

Key Job Responsibilities Oversee creation, revision, and updates to Parts Manuals using Bills of Materials and engineering changes. Manage projects and maintain deadlines.  Oversee creation, revision, and updates to Service and Operation and Maintenance Manuals.  Study drawings, schematics, CAD data and machines to build visuals for content.  Proactively work with subject matter experts to discover and translate relevant information into readable content.  Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and strive to implement workflow improvements.  Learn the Electric Drive Truck products, and determine the subject matters needed for technical content.  Maintain and enhance technical communication built solutions. Develop cross system integration points. Collaborate with Komatsu IT and third-party vendors for project support and requirements. Qualifications/Requirements

BA/BS in related field, or equivalent work experience in technical documentation. 
Ideal candidates must have a technical background and are familiar with hydraulic, electrical and structural systems. 
Ability to research and quickly understand new machine technologies. 
Excellent writing skills, ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently and with other technical writers. 
Tech savvy aptitude. Quickly learn new software used at Komatsu for documentation. 
Microsoft Office proficiency. FrameMaker, Oxygen, Illustrator, Asana, database management and ERP systems.
Ability to identify workflow efficiency improvements.
Ability to comprehend technical documents or data.
Strong problem solving skills, including being able to concentrate and have a high attention to detail to solve complex problems swiftly.
Strong organizational skills.
Communicates promptly with customers (internal and external), in a clear and effective manner.
Must be able to adhere to process protocol.
Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner.
Must be able to inspect site and work areas to detect safety concerns.
Must be able to manage the stress and mental fatigue that comes from a heavy workload, competing priorities and ambiguity.
Ability to deliver work within tight deadlines.
