Role Summary

The Global Fund Services business is one of the fastest growing areas in Northern Trust, offering a comprehensive suite of fund products and services to Asset Managers worldwide.

This role is within the UK Fund Accounting department, specifically within the taxation team. UK Fund Accounting looks after more than 10% of all UK Authorised Funds for numerous Fund Management clients, with the more complex funds being looked after by a separate Specialist Team. This role is to work in the tax team who are responsible for producing annual CT600 taxation returns, interim taxation reviews, CT61 returns, quarterly tax reviews and arranging taxation payments within HMRC guidelines. The successful applicant will also be expected to liaise with the NAV and Report & Accounts teams.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Keeping track of upcoming deadlines and ensuring all tax deliverables are met.To provide oversight of tax work produced by Financial Reporting team while developing their knowledge - raising queries where required.To prepare and review tax tasks such as annual CT600 returns and quarterly VAT & CT61 returns for a range of Unit Trusts and ICVC’s within HMRC guidelines and timetable.To provide draft CT600 tax returns for external oversight minimizing queries by providing quality and timely responses for completion and filing of returns.To review interim tax provisions within the daily NAV’s prepared by offshore team in Manila.Manage taxation queries from Accountants, Auditor’s, Clients and Relationship Managers in a prompt and professional manner and providing response on technical matters.To assist other partners and teams on complex taxation queries.Investigate new tax rules and laws where appropriate.Communicate effectively (both orally & in written form) with internal and external parties.To deliver a quality service to our clients within the set KPI’s adhering to client SLAsTo assist the London Tax Team with ad-hoc request in order to ensure the overall running of the department.Quarterly Tax in Price Review to be completed for all funds ensuring NAV accuracy. Any questions or concerns to be raised with relevant NAV teams directly cc’ing London Tax team.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

Proven experience in a similar Fund Accounting taxation role.Ability to work within a team and share acquired knowledge and experience with others through providing training and support, particularly with more complex taxation queries.Ability to work under pressure to achieve all the taxation deadlines for client deliverables including reviewing and overseeing workloads of a junior taxation specialist within the tax team.Knowledge of different investment vehicles Unit Trusts, OEICs, PAIFs and ACS.Knowledge of Capital Allowances for PAIFs and ability to advise on queries and explain to clients / solicitors TWDVs.Knowledge to maintain Tax Tables for Mutual Funds and ACSs.Numerical and computer literacy (including spreadsheet skills) – (i.e. Excel (formulae), Word, Lotus Notes and taxation software package)VBA skill would be advantageous to automate the processesAbility to think outside the box and review the process enhancements and improvementsKnowledge of MS Access Database would be beneficial to drive the existing spread sheets on the AccessPossesses a very high attention to detail.Challenge the status quo and review process to continually enhance the processesHighlight any gaps to the Manager and participate in development of the processesPossesses strong interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders especially with offshore locations. Depositaries, Custodians, Auditors and Clients etc.A good knowledge of the SORP relating to fund accounting.A degree holder with Professional Accountancy Qualifications (Manila equivalent of ACCA, ACA, CTA) with specialisation in Advanced Taxation (UK) an advantage.
