POSITION SUMMARY: The primary focus of this position will be to utilizing computer‐aided design software and/or drafting equipment to create 2D or 3D drawings, blueprints, schematics, and related technical renderings. The Technical Design Consultant will create detailed drawings to capture scales, processes, dimensions, topography, angles, and other pertinent engineering information utilizing knowledge of engineering principles and applicable government regulations. This role will also develop drawings from notes, sketches, existing drawings, design concepts, verbal instructions, and/or engineering specifications, as well as document updates to design and ensure that any changes are recorded and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Serve as layout creation expert during the operations design phaseProvide high quality 2D and 3D drawings and support the creation of solutions with feasible layoutsMark possible obstructions in layouts between building or MHE elementsProvide master layouts out of different supplier and building drawings from different sectionsPreparation of the drawings in the Fortna standard based on layers and representation of the technical elementsRegular tracking of drawing tools on the marketCreation of drawings and assets for best practice solutions in 2D and 3D for a library, utilizing current design practices for material handling systemsAdhering to all Fortna and department standards and helping to improve themAttending and documenting all required meetingsMaintaining good design notesAttending company training as requiredTravel to be 35% of yearly timeResponding to and following up communications in a timely mannerBeing available, approachable, and reliable

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two-year engineering and/or drafting degree or high school diploma with five years of relevant experienceFive years’ experience with AutoCAD or equivalentProficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and ExcelExperience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment and general operational knowledge of distribution centers with a focus on automation designKnowledge of technical feasibilities of commonly used technologyAbility to improve concept layouts with regards to achieve economic use of materialsWillingness to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest innovations in the industryStrong organizational, time management and problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate in English at a conversational levelAble to travel occasionally both nationally and internationallyAbility to perform essential functions of the job

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in preparation of layout design drawings for logistic solutionsAutoCAD 2D, 3D, Inventor or equivalent design package

WORKING CONDITIONS: When duties are performed in a typical office environment, extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen will be required. Also required is the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in this work environment is usually quiet. When travelling to Client sites, essential requirements of this position may require physical presence in various environments and locations. Physical stamina may be required for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and/or working in cramped quarters. Exposure to potentially dangerous tools and equipment amidst a variety of building materials is probable, as is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can vary from being relatively quiet, to moderate, to excessive. Safety shoes or boots may be required in certain situations. Additional safety clothing including gloves, hardhats, and devices to protect eyes, mouth, or hearing, will be worn as necessary.

The base salary range for this role is $76,100 to $114,200.  This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
