Job Description
The Technical Design Engineer is a key member of the Product Development Team, responsible for developing high-quality bags and accessories, facilitating communication across departments and vendors, and ensuring the timely production of superior products.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and manage technical specifications and detailed bill of materials to ensure product details are accurate, current, and production-ready.Develop measurement specifications with an understanding and knowledge of patternmaking and grading.Manage an iterative prototype process and collaborate with key internal and vendor partners to solve problems and achieve desired results from both a design intent and costing perspective.Apply in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing process to engineer products that enhance overall performance.Review, document, and communicate all sampling requirements and product changes to domestic and offshore manufacturing partners.Adhere to development calendar deadlines, proactively addressing exceptions or potential issues, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure timely development completion.Develop and maintain material details including new packaging, branding, hangtags, and written content to deliver a complete product story to the customer.Recommend and source new materials and construction techniques to surpass IMU goals.Build strong working relationships with domestic and offshore vendors through daily communication, timely approvals, and participation in vendor calls.Follow established processes for trim development, care instructions, and product briefs, contributing to seasonal standards development.Coordinate with cross-functional partners to utilize housed materials and distribution for manufacturing partners.Proficiently manipulate technical sketches using Adobe Illustrator.Knowledge or ability to use Gerber/Accumark computer pattern system is a plus.Troubleshoot and problem-solve proactively.Uphold established standards for construction, specification, costing, and design.Own and maintain records, bulk approvals, and product details in the PLM system.Assist in achieving fit approval in collaboration with designers through fit sessions and developing block fits.Collaborate with patternmakers as needed.Assist in building SOPs, templates, and libraries for team utilization.Stay updated on current market trends, particularly in LBA product, construction engineering, and styling, to enhance product engineer proficiency and role growth.Travel to factories as needed for seasonal reviews.Essential Skills4+ years of experience in garment manufacturing, product development, and specification development, preferably in the apparel industry.Two-year technical degree focused on soft goods, with knowledge of garment, bag, and/or home goods construction and manufacturing techniques.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills to build working relationships within teams.Ability to work autonomously while communicating key information to the Product Engineer Manager.Strong time management and organizational skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.Experience working in a global, multi-cultural environment.Experience working with domestic and/or offshore vendors and factories.Proficiency in Excel and Word.Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.Experience working in PLM systems.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge or ability to use Gerber/Accumark computer pattern system.Proactive troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Work Environment
Located in downtown Seattle near T-Mobile Park, the office is situated upstairs from a retail shop. Parking options include free street parking or paid parking spots.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
