The successful candidate willoversee the development of the plant quality management system (QMS), serve as the plant product performance expert, educate personnel on their role in the QMS, and monitor daily quality requirements. The Plant Technical Director will ensure that all products adhere to our manufacturing standards and will provide technical expertise and a scientific approach to solving plant manufacturing opportunities .This is a full-time, salaried exempt positionthat reports directly to the site’s Mill Manager. *Key Functions:* * Acts as a role model for our core values: Safety, Integrity, Citizenship, Sustainability and Inclusion * Has accountability for the plant’s quality assurance (QA) programs and processes to ensure that they comply with the manufacturing standards * Provides technical expertise and leadership, regarding plant process, product quality and performance * Safely and effectively, manages the onsite laboratory, as well as the technical related processes and procedures * Provides mentoring and coaching to advance plant associates technical knowledge to ensure that they understand and participate in the site quality programs * Ensures incoming raw materials are tracked and adhere to the appropriate specifications * Applies statistical process control techniques and works with department managers to actively ensure that products comply with quality expectations, reduce process variation, improve product recovery, and improve production * Optimizes and maintains product performanceto meet all specified metrics * Works with the Product Engineering, Codes and Standards Group to develop and execute plant level trials and related reporting * Maintains QA lab test equipment * Monitors and report on the plant quality performance (month end reports) to the Product Engineering, Codes and Standards group and plant leadership * Oversee plant level Quality related capital projects * Interacts with the technical team, engineering team, plant associates, sales team, and customers as it relates to products manufactured and/or quality claims * Works with department managers to investigate Quality Notifications thoroughly, provide timely feedback including identification of the appropriate root cause(s), and documentation/implementation of corrective actions. * Ensures completion of internal plant QMS audits and, at least once a year, performs QMS Audits at other EWP plants * Effectively implements and overseas the QMS program * Oversees adequacy of the site level job instructions developed by other department managers to verify their adequacy and accuracy against the Manufacturing Standards, Best Operating Practices (BOPs), and any other quality requirements * Stay abreast of industry trends and developments and participates in continuous education programs and training * A Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Forestry, Wood Sciences, Engineering or a related field will be highly preferred; Non-related degrees or the equivalent amount of working experience will also be considered * Be a professional engineer, be a member of a technical association relevant to structural composite lumber or provide at least two references that they qualified practitioner of the quality sciences. * Minimum 3-5 years technical experiencein a related field * Must have track record of consistently demonstrating leadership skills as well as positive influence and accomplishments in safety, quality, productivity, change management, and people development * Demonstrated success in working with customers, direct reports, peers, other department employees including managers * Team oriented and excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Must be pro-active in process improvements and have excellent follow-through in meeting commitments. * Strong Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience with industrial statistics and statistical analysis * Capable of managing multiple projects with strong organizational skills with very close attention to detail * Must be able to prioritize and multitask with ability to work with minimal supervision * Critical thinker, enthusiastic and positive approach towards employees and work * Ability to meet timelines and deal tactfully and courteously with business stakeholders *Compensation*: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $106,800 - $157,300 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay.
