Technical Director

Your Role

As a Technical Director for our London office, you will act as a leader in all aspects to our studio members and be responsible for the proper deployment of staff to ensure the make-up of each project team suits each individual project’s specific needs and requirements. You should be passionate about all stages, from test fits to technical detailing and construction documentation. You will be experienced in handling the technical process, with excellent presentation and relationship building skills, and the ability to understand and interpret client needs and requirements.

You will have a good understanding of the end-to-end design process, commencing in the marketing phase through construction completion, and possess demonstrable International experience, having worked on a variety of projects.

A self-motivated team player with a positive, communicative and collaborative approach, the Technical Director will work in partnership with colleagues across Gensler’s practice areas not only in London but Firmwide, as well as with clients, vendors, consultants and stakeholders at all levels.

What You Will Do

Work closely with management and design leaders to direct the implementation of simultaneous projectsWork with the Office Technical Leadership group in developing Design and Delivery strategiesLead teams in detailed technical development of design and follow throughProvide active technical development of the design and technical input during the preparation and execution of construction documentsLead the technical aspects of the project team and oversee all phasesLead design teams towards a cohesive and rational technical solution which best meets the client’s brief and conform to the project brief and is technically, legally and financially responsibleResponsible for making the technical team aware of current building legislation and the Quality Management SystemProvide technical mentoring and teachingInteract and work with Clients to achieve design intentions of brief

Your Qualifications

An undergraduate or Master’s degree in Architecture or Architecture TechnologySignificant, demonstrable experience of leading large teams to deliver projects through all stages including Construction AdministrationAdvanced knowledge of Building RegulationsA strong design sensibility which leads to the enhancement of design through the technical innovation and processesHigh level technical skills and experience in Construction Documents (Drawing & Specification) preparationExperience in full cycle Construction Administration on multiple projectsAbility to create positive relationships with outside design firms and corporate client and stakeholders – experience advising executives in global professional services and financial services firmsExperience facilitating meetings with diverse stakeholders to reach consensusMust be highly proficient in Revit and AutocadExperience in mentoring and developing junior employeesExperience with international projects an advantage
