The Technical Director with Disney Live Entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort leads technical production efforts related to the development of live entertainment shows and product offerings, including parades, stage shows, and special events for Worldwide Disney Parks and Resorts locations.
This is a full-time role on-site in Orlando that will report to the Manager - Technical Direction.
What You Will Do
Develop, lead, and mentor crew and technical/production planners while promoting company-wide standards and efficienciesParticipate in the creative developmentCoordinating/partnering with local and government authorities responsible for legal code compliance, including safety, engineering, permitting, and ADACoordinate bid processes and vendor selections with contracts and procurement and manage vendor efforts, including design development, constructionInteract with other parties’ fabrication, shipping, installation, and buy-off teamsSupports and consults on maintenance, design, and mounts of new showsProvide ongoing Entertainment Show Quality evaluations as part of the implementation and operational planningMaintains project files, tech logs, design documents, bid packages, schedules, and punch listsRequired Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of experience in Technical Theater or Live Show EntertainmentProven knowledge and understanding of the operation and artistic application of a wide variety of show systems and technology, including audio, special effects, puppets, lighting, show control systems, video, facilities, and riggingDemonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the entertainment industry’s innovative technologiesProven experience with facility design, engineering, and constructionDemonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express creative ideasExcellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesStrong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsDemonstrated leadership, partnering, and strategic planning skillsHighly motivated, requiring minimal direction and follow-upStrong computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD)Proven track record to support the creative process by collaborating with other designers, directors, writers, and producersAbility to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travelWillingness and ability to travel internationally frequently for extended periodsPreferred Qualifications
6+ years of experience in live show developmentProven business management experienceProficient in some or all of the following engineering subject areas: structural, mechanical, electrical, software, safetyProficiency in other languages is a plusEducation
