About the role:

This is an exciting time to be in the Transportation Planning space in New Zealand and Stantec are leading the charge.

The focus of the role is to provide technical leadership and/or project management delivery in transportation planning for network related advisory services and capital projects.  You’ll deliver high end technical expertise in transportation planning and project development as well as build and maintain strong external client relationships.  Your contribution to the strategic growth of the transportation planning business at Stantec New Zealand will be identifying and securing related business opportunities with key and emerging clients to continue to grow our market share. 

Your project management skills will see you leading and managing transportation projects to ensure outcomes such as budget, profit, timeliness, technical and quality standards meet both the client and Stantec expectations.  Your experience of facilitation will be utilised by ensuring the team has a constructive and collaborative environment where different thinking and ideas are encouraged.

Day to day tasks will involve:

Provide technical leadership on a range of transport planning projects Provide technical expertise, direction, and coaching in the scoping of, leading and undertaking investment planning studies for transport projects Provide technical capabilities in transport planning, in such knowledge areas as investment planning, economic evaluation, modelling, public and private sector, active transport, public transport, freight and logistics and strategic transport planning Provide advice, solutions and project outcomes that create value for clients Plan, program and coordinate projects as Project Manager or Project Technical Lead with smart and innovative outcomes that contribute to project objectives Provide technical and professional leadership /mentoring to intermediate/junior team members Develop strong working relationships with NZ Transport Agency | Waka Kotahi, KiwiRail, Local Authority and Private Sector clients and ensure their requirements are met Develop and lead client and partner relationships in line with strategic direction, to help expand Stantec’s market share Prepare Expression of Interest responses and proposals, and enact marketing initiatives Be comfortable preparing and presenting evidence as an expert witness

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

Industry recognised qualification. Be a chartered professional engineer (or equivalent) or working toward professional registration with EngNZ or an equivalent professional body. At least 15 years’ transport planning experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of business and project finances. Excellent investigation, analytical and report writing skills, including investment planning. Excellent inter-personal skills and an ability to build trust and provide support to peers and clients. Experience in the private sector desirable.
