Technical Editor/Writer with AIS Infrastructure
**ABOUT** The AIS Infrastructure Group consists of four civil/vertical construction companies. Our services include infrastructure improvement, heavy civil construction, vertical construction, site development for government and state agencies and private enterprise across the United States. **GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY** AIS Infrastructure is currently recruiting for a Technical Editor/Writ4rfd er to produce reports, deliverables, and sales/marketing materials for the civil construction market. The Technical Editor/Writer writes, proofreads, revises, edits, and formats documents ranging from large, complex technical reports, plans, and other formal client and regulatory deliverables to short letters, memos, and communications. This position is located at our corporate office in Chattanooga, TN. The ideal candidate is a driven professional who embraces challenge and is eager to jump in and learn new things, excels at writing and editing while being compliant with company and client requirements, is highly organized and enjoys diving into the details, can distill complex technical concepts into understandable prose, and is motivated to be a part of a rapidly changing environment. **MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES** + Leading and/or participating in the full lifecycle of the document development process from preparing the initial document format/template to ensuring the final document format meets the specified requirements. + Writing and/or editing reports, specifications, plans, publications, proposals, correspondence, etc., to ensure content clarity, consistency, and accuracy of grammar and punctuation. + Reviewing technical graphics and tables for accuracy and consistency based on related technical narratives. + Creating or following a document control process and ensuring appropriate configuration control of all document versions. + Formatting/paginating Microsoft Word documents including creating and using templates, styles, and the built-in table of contents generator. + Compiling final document sections and completing final document production to ensure a high-quality document is provided to clients. + Working with management, project leads, authors, and subject matter experts to establish document production schedules. + Ensuring corporate and project standards and quality assurance requirements are met. + Using advanced techniques in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office to produce complex documents, including designing/creating fillable forms. + Assisting with document control and records management, including filing and archiving. + Producing electronic and/or hard copy deliverables as needed to meet external client deadlines. **EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE** **,** **SKILLS & ABILITIES** + Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field + 10 or more years of experience editing and writing technical documents, ideally for federal civil construction projects + Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in and thorough knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, composition, and style. + Ability to perform substantive edits, write original text, and identify and apply an appropriate level of edit based on considerations such as client expectations, audience, visibility, and corporate or client standards. + Ability to review, format, and edit content to professional standards while conforming to appropriate style guide (corporate, client, etc.) and other document-related guides, procedures, and requirements. + Knowledge of standard editing/proofreading marks. + Proficiency with standard document formatting/editing/production software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, etc.), including electronic edit/comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and developing and applying templates and styles. + Proficiency with creating complex PDF documents (e.g., combining separate files into master PDF, creating bookmarks, assigning metadata, creating fillable forms, coordinating electronic signatures, etc.). + Self-starter with ability to manage deadlines and work independently. + Skilled in managing multiple assignments with varying degrees of complexity and competing deadlines. + Meticulous attention to detail is required. + Intermediate to advanced knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. + Critical thinking skills with ability to read, understand, and communicate technical requirements. + Ability to support document production (i.e., standing at a copier/printer, collating hardcopies, creating tab dividers, inserting hardcopies into binders, etc.). + Ability to perform complex publication assignments with minimal supervision. + Must be proactive, use individual initiative, follow tasks through to completion, be attentive to detail, produce quality products, and adhere to tight deadlines. + Experience working in an engineering or architectural firm, particularly supporting environmental projects, is highly desired. + Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice; some travel may be required. **Benefits** We are dedicated to our employees' wellbeing and believe that every one of our employees has the right to work in an environment that is safe, welcoming, and inclusive.
