Technical Expert, Deep Mill Level Zone Undercutting

Assist the General Superintendent, Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ) Drift Development in all aspects of underground caving operations to include undercut drilling and blasting, draw bell drilling and blasting, draw bell development, and draw bell drilling and blasting. The Technical Expert role requires not only technical expertise, but also the ability to transfer knowledge to others within the organization in a multicultural environment. This position involves gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Indonesian and Papuan culture, as well as building relationships, solving problems creatively as a team, and effectively communicating in different styles. The Technical Expert must also have a continuous learning mindset, be patient, adaptable, and able to work in an environment where work and personal life mix. Additionally, a strong sense of collaboration, mentoring, coaching, questioning, and influencing skills are essential for success in this role.

Additional Responsibilities:

Train supervisors and crews in all aspects of caving activities, i.e. development, long hole drilling, blasting ground supporting, etc., to promote their skill and knowledge in caving and increase their quality of works. Control all activities in the assigned area to ensure that all works in area of responsibility are carried out safely. Monitor and control the performance and the activities of the supervisors and crews to identify the areas for improvement and to ensure proper procedures are followed. Prepare a regular report to superior to provide a clear progress and status of the crew performance and the activities within the group. Control the DMLZ caving drilling, blasting, and undercutting and draw belling activities to ensure they are executed safely, efficiently and the targets are achieved. Preserving coordination between the technical engineering and related staffs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with ten (10) years of experience in underground mining practices and supervision Or High School diploma and fifteen (15) years of experience in underground mining practices as a front-line supervisor. Knowledge and skills with operating international standard drill equipment used in PTFI. Knowledge and skills with operating international standard drill method used in PTFI. Strong computer skills. Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills. Have a thorough knowledge of Underground Mining practices and equipment, as well as safety procedure is required. Be technically sound in area of expertise and have desire and ability to transfer that knowledge to Indonesian nationals. Support and assist in the advancement of the assigned counterpart as well as other national employees, potentially including creating and managing developmental plans. Build a basic Indonesian language competency including knowing basic greetings, questions, and work-related terms. Adept at communicating using different styles according to the culture and context. Ability to check for understanding for oneself and for the other individual by using questioning skills within the context of transferring knowledge and skills. Establish trust and respect through the building of relationships over time. Ability to influence through relationships, as positional authority is limited. Understand and apply the coaching and mentoring process in the work environment. Value and apply hands-on approach to learning and training. Ability to understand different systems and assist in improving efficiency. Understand and apply different project management processes. Research and investigate historical practices and projects to gain understanding before proposing ideas. Understanding of the organizational structure and respect of the chains of communication. Ability to remain calm and patient under stressful circumstances. Ability to adapt and live in an area where work life and personal life continuously mix. Criteria/Conditions
