Technical Inspector (Allied Trades)
Overview **This position will be physically located in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP** Performs inspections of Body Work, Welding, Canvas, and Machining repairs on a wide array of military vehicles & customer requested metal fabrications IAW Army Technical manuals & AWS Welding Code requirements as needed. The Allied Trade Inspector may be required to instruct other employees in the proper repair/fabrication procedures of military equipment/ferrous and nonferrous metals. Also inspects welding qualification coupons to ensure quality standards are adhered to. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Perform initial, in-progress and final inspections on Body, Canvas, and Welding repairs and Metal Fabrications, ensures the work performed is IAW applicable Army Regulations, Technical Manual & Industry Standards Conduct field/sustainment level technical inspection on fabrication, repair and modifications of metallic and nonmetallic parts. Conduct field/sustainment level technical inspection and supervision on welding activities of classified/unclassified components belonging to track and wheeled vehicle. Performs Estimated Costs of Fabrications (ECOF) as required. Performs visual and/or Non-Destructive Testing to determine welds are within quality standards. Reads blueprints, sketches and modification orders to plan the process and layout to be performed in an expeditious, economical and effective manner. Determines type and quantity of material, and orders material required to perform repair or fabrication IAW customer work request. Assists in coaching subordinate welders in ensuring all current Internal Operating Procedures (IOP) and quality regulations are complied with. Completes and reviews work order documentation to ensure for accuracy and completeness. Responsible for the Welding Testing/Qualification process and test plate inspections for assigned AN/FN Welding personnel and in ensuring that the current internal welding qualification program is maintained and up to date. Operate/maintain GFE: i.e. contact truck, portable welding equipment, air compressors, and forklifts. Responsible for observing all current ES&H and fire regulations. Ensures a safe work area by ensuring employees are utilizing appropriate welding screens, warning devices, and proper vehicle/equipment placement. Prepares necessary paperwork showing labor and supplies used for job order. Classifies equipment for disposal IAW Army regulations. Performs other duties and assignments as required. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High School Graduate or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of 2 years six Welding Inspection Certifications: Must have expert knowledge of functions and processes such as preparing an ECOD, ACOD, ECOR or PQDR. Must have a working knowledge of the Army Corrosion Prevention Program. Must be knowledgeable of The Army Maintenance Management Systems (TAMMS) Ability to obtain a CAC and a Logistics Information Warehouse (LIW) account The candidate must be American Welding Society (AWS) certify Skills: Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Collaborative work style fostering cooperation and teamwork. Ability to work effectively with employees and management of all levels to include multi-national staff, superiors, and ranking military officers. Ability to handle confidential company and employee information with complete discretion. High-level communication skills in English, both verbally and written. Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. High-level organization and planning skills so workflow is managed efficiently and accurately. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets reports and documents. Expert knowledge in welding and repair requirements for military equipment/ferrous and nonferrous metals using oxyacetylene, electric arc, and inert gas welding equipment. Expert knowledge of Field Level Maintenance Metal Worker tasks. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Non-Destructive Testing Equipment and Chemicals; Body, Welding and Machine Shop equipment and tooling; Military wheeled vehicles and non-tactical vehicles; Automated data processing equipment to include computer, printer, and other general office equipment outfitted with Ms-Office software, TMDE. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally conducted in a shop environment; however, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, and Fire Regulations and published company work rules. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Work may require lifting up to 50 lbs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents.
